That ref wasn't your son by any chance Septimus??

Yes it was an eventful game and handbags at dawn doesn't even begin to describe the incident in the second half when 'the great one' was sent off along with the Hertford Town Coach, Clement was provoked and I hope the Referee's report to the League will reflect that.

I hope the league throws the book at both of them. Being provoked is no excuse to react. A bigger thing to do would've been to walk away.

Rhodes, why did HTFCew blank you? What have you done to him/her/them/it?

Bosman08 - Where have you been hiding lately, I thought you had been delegated to put the results up on Saturday's and midweek seeing how HTFCew has downed tools. I thought the attendances were all poor last night but I suppose Champions League on tv had something to do with it.

Rhodes, maybe the attendences reflected the quality of the teams playing. Speaking for myself, I'd rather watch black paint dry and/or pour pepper in my eyes than watch Kingsbury London Tigers. For a start how can you take a football team seriously when they've got a name like that? They sound like an american sports team. Next we'll be getting Edgeware Crusaders or Kentish town Mauraders. It's all b*lllox. What's wrong with plain old utd, town, green etc??

Zezi said that Arlesey were blowing out of their backsides, so it kind of makes a mockery of them being called "Athletic". I vote they change their name until they can run more than 50 yards without needed a ventilator!!

quite so truthteller, Tigers! what a daft name. They arent from Leicester where all the tigers live, perhaps kingsbury london wasps would be better, I bet no-ones thought of that.

how about arlesley asthmatic?

Truth Teller - What about Sheffield Wednesday then, that's a daft name, you really don't know what you're talking about, why not find an egg chasing forum if there is one as you will be more at home.

Nothing strange about this at all - very logical indeed.

Name origins and nicknames

Sheffield Wednesday are the only English League club with a day of the week in their name.

The club was initially a cricket club named The Wednesday Cricket Club after the day of the week when they played their matches. The footballing side of the club was established to keep the team together and fit during the winter months.

The club was formerly known as "The Wednesday Football Club" until 1929, when the club was officially renamed "Sheffield Wednesday Football Club" under the stewardship of manager Robert Brown.[14] However the name Sheffield Wednesday dates back as far as 1883: the former ground at Olive Grove had the name Sheffield Wednesday painted on the stand roof.

Wednesday's original nickname was "The Blades", a common name for Sheffield clubs during the 19th century due to the city's links to the cutlery industry and now the nickname of their long-term local rivals Sheffield United. At the start of the 20th century, when a player presented them with an owl mascot to honour their stadium at Owlerton, adjacent to Hillsborough, the club became known as "The Owls".
