4-4-2, I was only there in the crowd and have no idea who you would be, oherwise I would (esp if it meant Mick getting me a drink!!).

Badfont Boy, apologies you're correct about the first goal coming from a corner, it was one of the shots over the bar from within the 6 yard box that was a result of the excellent passing move! Were you sat in the stand with me as well then?

As for Guv's miss, I actually didn't realise it was him as I'm sure I didn't see his name on the teamsheet(!). Was very unluky mind as I think everyone in the ground thought it was going in (inc Guv, who I'm sure had already turned away in mid celebration!!!).

In conditions that should be mid winter both sides played well. Ash started the better but didn't really test the CWU keeper. CWU then took the lead when a freekick wasn't clear by Ash but a good finish by the CWU player. Just before halftime Ash get a pen which S.Lydon tucks away, Within seconds should have gone in front but J. Blason put his effort wide.

The second half was again evenly fought with both sides having chances to score. It wasn't until the finally ten mintues when a slip at the back by Ash allowed the CWU forward in & he finished well. Ash then lost a player not agreeing to another poor lino decision which also saw Bonzo removed from the duggout for asking the question to the lino which he didn't like. Then well into injury time T. Mukabaa found the bottom corner off the net with a low drive for a well deserved point.

Early stages but can see both sides being around the top end of the table at the end off the season

APOLOGIES ! APOLOGIES all round.

BL00DY BUILDERS ! Sunday resting - Today arguing.

SL. My most abject apologies. TRS and TSF were there, and I was one of the last to leave the ground. Why didn't you come and introduce yerself ?

I was a bit tied up with conversations with No 1 Daughter, who is one of our ladies coaches, plus the bottled Stella had numbed the eyes somewhat ! Anyone from DFC, or even Big Brian, the bar-man would have pointed me out to you.

For those that can't access it - Heres the official DFC press-release on the match.

"Chicks fell to a first game of the season defeat at home to last years 6th placed side Frimley Green in a match Tony Webb will hope his side can quickly learn from.

Having dropped down a division after last season's relegation, Dorking are hoping for a better season on the pitch now that the club's future has been settled with a long term lease having been signed with its landlords Mole Valley District Council in the days immediately prior to this game, but little seemed to go right for Chicks in this game.

Going 1-0 down to a good curling free kick on 22 minutes which went in off the post with Dorking keeper John McBride beaten, Dorking thereafter dominated the game, especially in the last third of the match. This was despite being reduced to 10 men at half time when an off the ball incident was spotted by the referee, leading to the dismissal of Dorking's no 7 Jesse Davis. Dorking camped in the opposition half for the final 30 mins of the game but despite at least 4 good second half opportunities, Chicks were unable to grab the equaliser they deserved

With only 7 of the squad having played for Chicks last season, a new look side took the field, captained by last season's captain Roy Newman. The first half was an even affair, with neither side really gaining an upper hand, but it was the visitors who scored the all important goal in the 22nd minute, Darren Moffat scoring what turned out to be the winner.

It got bleaker for Chicks at half time when Davis received a straight red card for an off the ball incident after the interval whistle had gone, but to be fair to the side, they came out fired up for the second half and at times it looked as though Dorking had the numerical advantage rather than their visitors as Dorking assumed control of the game. Dorking looked more dangerous once subs Lester Boniface and Garry Fennessey came on for the final stages, Boniface perhaps having the best chance to give Dorking something from the match when through on goal with only the keeper to beat, but the chance went missing. Frimley hung on to start the season in good fashion with a win, but Dorking showed enough positives in this match to indicate that with some more strengthening of the team in key positions then Chicks should put the disappointment of last season behind them as the season progresses.

Chicks now move on to play in the FA Cup on Saturday when Combined Counties League Premier Division side Chessington and Hook United are the visitors in the Extra Preliminary Round of the competition, sponsored by EON. The match kicks off at Meadowbank at 3pm.

Team - John McBride, Aaron Leathingy , Alex Hill , Paul Guy , Roy Newman C , Andy Briant , Jesse Davis , James White , Victor Donker , Dan Lawrence , Dan Bennett , Subs - Martin Waldren , Gary Fennessy , Lester Boniface , Will Renton Rose , Mike Sandiford."

Thanks for your additional report TRS. I would add one further comment, though far be it for me to......

How comes a referee doesn't apply the advantage rule to one side after a foul, but stops play, allowing defence to re-group, though happily allows the advantage rule to the other side every time ?

I think Refs will be watched more closely this season. Where IS Gordon when you need him ?

as i was saying saturday , you go down a league , you cant expect the refs to be better! personally, I though they did fine. pushing and shoving walking off at halftime isnt very clever, lucky only one red card issued.

for the goal, both free kicks were definitely fouls , and he gave the dorking defence plenty of time to sort themselves out.

Blame the bench for the goal. A guy on each post for a central free kick edge of box, and the bench call "get out get off the line" they run out , and nobby pops it in off the post.

Must admit. I didn't hear the shouting from the bench, but I did see J McB shove the one defender of the line, where eventually the ball went in !

I see a certain referee with a somewhat strange hairstyle at another game come in for some stick on another post on hear.

Maybe another article in the Surrey Mirror ?

thats the problem with an unsettled side bjr unfortunately, I expect the keeper and the bench were right, that's how the club has decided to defend that type of situation. keep everyone outside the six yd box. but not everyone remembered that, it caused confusion and i doubt keeper was 100% ready.

I expect you didnt hear the bench because you were in the "dry"! a very sensible option I took up 2nd half.

from where me an SL were sitting, the goalkeeper was more concerned about the players on the line than the ball, even after the referee blew his whistle to restart play. Once the whistle goes, any goalkeeper has to make himself ready and he didnt appear to be. The free kick itself was no where near the post, let alone going in off it and as a goalkeeper, I would have been dissapointed conceeding a goal on the 'goalkeeper' side of the goal, but at the same time, he would have every right to rollock the defence for dropping on the line.

An interesting topic from different perspectives.

John did come into the bar after the match but was otherwise engaged on the domestic front, and me, being polite didn't want to interupt.

I do remember wondering, as the kick was being taken - If the referee has awarded a DIRECT free-kick, can a defender be off-side if he is standing on or just in front of the goal line.

I know that from an INDIRECT free kick a defender can be, (in the referee's opinion) offside.

Kroooons ???

Hmmmmm !

no difference indirect or direct, the reason sides dont want a defender on the line is it allows the forwards to fill the box up. if the last man pushes up the attackers have to clear out as well. some sides defend with players on the posts but normally from wide free kicks and corners.

one for coaches corner.

(i think youve got your defenders mixed with your attackers)

i think we should blame Robbie Earle. He started it at Wimbledon, dropping onto the post to clear off the line and others try it, but can't pull it off.

It was just one blip by the goalie who othewise had a good game, but as everyone knows, that you can be the best keeper in the world, but everyone remembers you for the mistakes. Just ask Bonetti, Seaman etc
