H/Trucker-if you remember games at the Dolphin then you are talking pre 1974, and so you know I am right when I say all bar a couple of players in a best eleven came from that era-and I know that was then and this sadly is now-but it should give you an insight as to what a good player looks like-for starters you would have been a lot more confident of a decent season way back then, just because of the class of player, and before you tell me, I know everything is relative, but I say ( and I pays me money so am entitled to)that even the league we have sunk to, will need a better class player than some of those we now have.

Sweetman deserves our full support for what he has achieved in such a short space of time as has been said he nearly saved us from relegation in our own right, if he had had a few more games i think he would have. Also we are at the 4th division of non league football we are not in the conference and not able to attract the players that we would need to get back there very quickly ,we have to build gradually, sweetman has not been slow to assemble a small squad of players that could be capable of mounting a challenge for promotion this season or next.

Talk about not having a bit of patience, has the non league sunk to the mentality of the premiership where managers are sacked in such a short space of time.

Yes 10-15 games will probably show what sort of season we are going to have. I honestly believe we will be in the top half of the table and can look forward to some good football, thats not to say that there wont be some ups and downs but thats all part and parcel of being a STFC supporter.

This is getting a tad tedious. Us new supporters might know nothing of the golden olden days, but I know that I am going to support my team, back and encourage my team, even if we have anopther crap season. I wont start slagging them off and saying they are not good enough before they have even kicked a ball in competition. Yes we are all entitled to our opinion and surely we have to have some kind optimism, Reardon, no doubt you will call it blind hope, but there you go.

And can I suggest a dictionary for your spelling lol!
No seriously you've been found wanting-you obviously don't know much at all before 1974-failing that give me your best Slough eleven.
And yes sorry to upset your comments but as always I will be there Saturday.

reardon was god, maybe you were a supporter in th 'good old days' and maybe you are now but can you honestly say that you have supported slough all the way, did you cheer us on when we were at our lowest losing 8, 9 nil cause thats what a true supporter does so when you say that us 'new supporters' cant name the team from 40 years ago so what, at least we dont slag off our own team.

Readon was God - this is the 2008-9 season - not one of those rose tinted seasons of your distant memory.

You did not get the managers job - now whay a pity!

You only watch the occasional Slough game - limited current understanding of the squad.

If you are as old as you say are you sure it is not senility setting in?

Looks like you have made lots of freinds on here - what Kay says is spot on!

I for one will be getting behind the team, as if you had not noticed we have a team that is more structured and deeper in depth (juniors) than we have had for many years - I think it is you RWG that is sticking your head in the good old times sand!

I'm old enough to remember the Dolphin and name several top Rebels teams. I'm also gutted about where we are now, but continue to support the club. Reality is we are a million miles from 10 years ago, when we probably had our best ever team, 8th in Conference, Trophy semi finalists.

Fact is we KNOW we can't afford top players and we shouldn't expect top class performances either, BUT we should be able to compete at this level and that's important enough for me. I couldn't stand another season of dross and am confident we'll do much better. We've got a Manager (the previous ones were bit part), a new Chairman and new people at the helm. It's all positive stuff and if the new ground comes off soon we'll be flying.

Come on you Rebels!!

Well said Bernie. I too remember the good old days (i have followed Slough since 1973 on and off) and attended the FA Amateur Cup Final against Walton and H. I remember the likes of Terry Reardon, Geoff Anthony, Ian Wostenholme in goal, Terry Turl and Keith Mead. I also

remember watching the excellent Steve Thompson during the Conference days. Fact is that these days are now gone, and i wish Reardon is god would change the record and look for positives, in that we still have great support at this level and a new ground to hope for

Up The Rebels
