Go on then tell me, where does that leave us in respect of the coming season-some one on here said the Goldaming game should tell us where we are in expectations-bearing in mind that they were a junior side until they got into their present league.

An even game spoilt by the referees constant interference.

Slough played a 3-5-2 formation in the absence of Pritchard and McConigley but personally I don't think it worked without them. With their return Slough should return to 4-4-2.

Gray was unable to get forward down the left and although chances were created in the first half the midfield wasn't really able to get hold of the ball for any significant period of time. Roberts did well down the right where Slough were at their most threatening and where the goal came from. DJ putting in a cross to Platt at the near post which the marking defender flicked over the 'keepers head.

2nd half Slough were able to deal with Godalming's pressure but defensive changes with Daly and Attrell replacing Pierson and Gray lead to indecision and sloppiness at the back. Their goal coming from a short backpass to Jackson which was intercepted and taken round him.

Probably a fair result in the end, but under that formation especially in the 2nd half the 3 in midfield - Brown, Dicko and Riddell - weren't really strong enough to control it on their own and got over run a lot. Don't think there was any threatening chance created in the 2nd half at all which is concerning.

The game was more like a league game, the pitch was extremely slick with the rain, tackles were flying in, and as Tom said, the referee liked the sound of his whistle, even if he took ages to see what his linesman was doing.

Apart form the silly mistake on the back pass with 10 minutes to go, I thought we played quite well against a team at the same level.

Even though Godalming got into our box more times than we would have liked, Jacko did not have that much to do.

It was just the game that we needed as their last friendly. Incidently, the Godalming supporters I spoke to said exactly the same thing about it being the perfeect last friendly.

Roll on the real thing against Burnham

i believe todays game answered more questions than it created , this was a far better performance than we gave last year for the most of it,and i don't think we will have many surprises this season but perhaps our opponants will have , but as always it is a work in progress, secondly ,reardon is god for someone who is supposedly so informed you certainly have a high opinion of your self of which i'm sure you are the only one. for your updated information godalming managed to finish above us last year and were moved by the fa for what ever reasons , so they are not as junior as you think matey boy.

Ah, heavy trucker,I never said that Goldaming are a junior side,I actually said they were until recently.

Here's one for ya !

Slough 1 v Stevanage 7.

Wrexham 5 v Stevanage 0.

This would not normally mean much, but shed loads of ya came on here and said 7-1 defeat ok cos it was some of their first team-does this mean Wrexham would have got double figures at least ?

No need to rise to anything, you cannot defend what is reality anyway.

No I support Slough Town, since probably before you were born-how else would I know Reardon was Slough's greatest ever player ?

or maybe you used to be a supporter and now someone else,

anyway your posts always seem to sound like you are speaking as from another club or applicant. Just because you know about Reardon doesnt prove anything and as you havent registered i cant point you to your posts where you have slipped up.

Tell me any time when you have ever been positive and we are still

playing friendlies.

why dont you try and get behind the team.

Now I'm rising to the bait, firstly why is it all you new supporters keep putting your head in the sand and are in constant denial.

Am I a supporter you question--okay here is a little test for you-write down Slough's best ever eleven, say from about 1960's onwards-you can't because barring two all the best players came before the last 20 years, so on experience alone I guess I have a rough idea about the present prospects.

Don't get me wrong I hope we win the league this season, but from what I have already pointed out from the friendlies-thats not going to happen-and if the manager can't see that-change him for one who can.

There's nothing wrong with aiming high, its better than aiming for mid table and finishing near the bottom. Aiming high can breed the confidence that may push us above other mid level teams in this league.

On hearing the result yesterday I thought it was quite a good marker for the team's progress since last year, if it wasn't for a sloppy backpass it sounds like we would've won it. Godalming were typical of the type of team at this level so a draw ahead of the new season isn't bad.

Hopefully the team will be ready for next weekend and ready to give it all for the new season.

I'm searching for any thread of logic in this statement. If I take it on face value, Alex Ferguson, Arsen Wenger etc arn't qualified to manage Slough, bcos they wouldn't have a clue as to who were our best players over the last 40 years. Brian Clough certainly wouldn't have ever been good enough. However, if Dave (programmes)was a few years older, he might just have been qualified.

I just don't understand it. Pass me the Werther's.

This is brilliant. A week before the season has started and already there are arguments!!

Let's just see how it goes. We are never gonna have the players of the quality of years gone by because we are now in a lower league and therefore cannot attract or afford that quality.

I think it's funny that certain people are questionning the players and management before a ball has even been kicked in the league!!

Totally agree - even if RWG is being serious and not here on a wind-up, it's not fair to criticise Sweetman. He only arrived with about 6 games to go last season, picked up the pieces from the previous management and we almost avoided relegation when it had previously looked a certainty. Let's see where we are after 10-15 games.
