John Akinde

The point about John Akinde for me is that he is at best unproven. Certainly he looks promising and is an exciting prospect, certainly his performance at Wembley was memorable. there is every chance that he WILL develop but to do this I think he needs to move up a league or two and have to fight for his place.

The ideal situation for us is for him to sigh a new contract for another year, have a good year for us and then I can see the offers come flooding in. The second best is to sell him for a sizeable sum now with a sell on clause. I think that Gash will more than fill the gap left.

The worst thing is for us to do nothing and then we lose him at the end of the season and get nothing for him either.

Unproven? Was the third highest goalscorer for Fleet last season - behind Long and McPhee, who both played twice the amount of games...
Not bad for someone in his first half-season at this level. He's young, still learning - will only get better. The only thing that will stop him being so effective is that this season other clubs will be very aware of him.

Unproven?

Patman, as far as I can remember he has only lasted 90 minutes in one match, that was at Wembley and he spent the last 20 minutes with his hands on his hips gasping for breath, when he had a one on one chance towards the end of the match he was so knackered he just fell over. Understandably as the lad had run himself into the ground.
Goals, after his very good start he only scored 4 goals in the last 3 months of the season...more worrying he got into the habit of passing when he should have been shooting and seems to have carried that on into the pre-season matches this season.

Definately still in the unproven category.

Slarti - on this passing rather than shooting thing (cant argue with your post btw) have you noticed how often Purcell has done the same during the pre-seasons? Something that has been worked on during training I think?

No denying Akinde looked bollixed by the end of the season, cant fault his work rate while on pitch tho.
