John Akinde

JA's departure is becoming increasingly inevitable if the rumoured offers are to be believed. A bit like Charlie And Bullard. more important than the initial fee is/are the sell on clause/s. I would hold out for 20% on first transfer and 10% from a second. We can cope short term with Gash, Moore, Long and Appiah up front.

We had 25% on Liam Hatch I don't see why would accept less on Big John, mind you unless he finds some shooting boots I don't think Millwall will be selling him on for a profit anyway so it s probably a moot point.

Extend his contract, I think Akinde will only improve now with both Long and Shakes putting balls into the box for Gash and Akinde. (Also very obvious from the pre-season games that Purcell has been told to cross the ball, and not shoot so often!)

This way if he improves, his value will only go up - and if he stays the same - he's still a great player!

Hasn't he already said that he will not be signing a new contract when this one expires?

His value will now only go down as the current contract gets nearer to completion, until we will ended with the crumbs that we would get from a tribunal.

Ah, I knew it couldn't be as simple as I had thought!

As good a player as he is I do have reservations about his ability to last a full season, he didnt play a full season last term and showed visible signs of fatigue towards the end, given that he will not get any smaller I think he may have a constant battle with fitness and releasing him this season may not be as bad as it may first seem. We seem to be attracting the right sort of attention and with a fee of 100k for Big John, we may just get our " fox in the box" to replace him.

I would feel we let him go too cheaply if we accept 100k. And without at least a 20% sell-on clause, I would feel the same way.

If I were John, though, instead of being down, I'd be inspired to score like hell the first half of the season, knowing that improved offers wold come in January. If he goes into a sulk for five months, no one will even offer 100k.

Ahsatan, he is only young and still learning and his fitness will improve. I think there's more to come from John, don't write him off just yet. He has proved last season that he is a talent and a few more months with us will help him progress even further. Patman got it spot on when he said that if he improves his value will go up and if he doesn't he is still a great player.

Take the money now. John may get better and may look elsewhere to fulfil his ambition and as Dave H has said , his value could go down ratehr then up. Best case scenario is to keep until Transfer window and then get a good offer from a struggling club with a good sell on. Worse case , no one come in , akinde score only 10 and leave to anotehr team of similar level to us at end of season

Think it's reached the point where we know he's going, it's just a case of finding the right moment to sell him on to get the best deal for the club. In my eyes it would probably better being earlier than later, firstly because the longer we hold him, if he doesn't perform this season his value will go down and secondly being able to get a decent replacement for him.
