I assume Liam will now be going for the team that he hopes will start against Mansfield, no One really knows whats going on with John Akinde at the moment so the team could look something like this,

That looks the favoured 'first' team at present - with MaCarthy, MacDonald, Ricketts and Akinde on the bench.

My one fear is that is a really young team with only Jack and Sacha the wrong side of 25!!

I still value McCarthy's experience holding the defense together. We seemed at our best last season when he was on the pitch.

It does look youthful Gaz, but although I hate to admit it, Aldershot won the League with a young team last season and most of our youngsters are now experienced players.

It's still boiling hot here, Rob, 27C+ and very muggy. I suspect Macca might be struggling for air in this weather. He looks more comfy on a cold, wet and windy January!!

Gary, I'm not making fun of you, but I had to laugh at 27+ as hot. I would trade for that temperature in a heartbeat. We haven't had a day that cool all summer and NC is muggy most of the time.

But your point about McCarthy is a good one. Maybe he's good for 60 minutes?

On a serious note, Macca hasn't really featured much during pre-season.

There is ample defensive cover - Hawkins, MacDonald, Ricketts.

Should he be held back until about halfway through the season (Xmas)awaiting the inevitable injuries and suspensions that will come along?

Whilst he remains a top player - the Smith/Charles combination seems very strong now and will only improve as they play together more.

Just a thought.

Smith supposedly took a knock yesterday, replaced by Macca for the 2nd half. Any word on his injury's severity?
