I still think that we should have played a higher placed club in the PSF. We have had two wins and two draws and a defeat against inferior opposition, not really testing and not really comprehensive wins. I know people said that its about confidence and that we don't want to get thrashed, but I believe we should have had at least one match against a Conf South or Conference club. At least that would show the players the standard that we are trying to achieve and also highlight any weaknesses we have. The Carshalton match is going to be a big test and I hope the players can cope.

Have to agree with margate shot-just one game against higher league oppo would have been enough.

I am not convinced that the players-and more importantly-the manager-realise the quality of opposition we will face in the Ryman Premiership.

having seen both whitstable and Thamesmead-the ryman league is a million miles different to what those two sides play like.

Unfortunatley-our rude awakening could be at Carlshalton-or maybe more embarrasingly at Dover- 6-0 to Dover anyone ?

That is not in anyway suggesting that we will not just about hold our own in the league, but it is going to take some adjusting for most of the players-unless we are able to sign the likes of Blackman, sappleton ,even Power who have been there before.

Again, my main concern-hopefully unwarranted-is that BA has underestimated what its all about in the ryman premier -its a serious league

I think he may know it's a serious league. Look at the facts, when we appointed Ashby most teams had their pre-season schedule sorted we hadn't even started, so we have to put up with the teams we are playing. I can't believe you are criticising Ashby when it's not his fault why the club are in this position and even more shocked that you are criticising him when he hasn't managed a domestic game yet. This goes to all of Ashby's critics.

I really can't see why every one is so worried about the opposition in PSFs.

Surely the purpose of them is for the manager to assess potential players and this would apply to both sides I would have thought. To worry about whether we are playing a team from a higher level is immaterial. Frankly I would have sooner seen last night's E & B game (which I did) than watched a team bearing a big name and which is full of unknowns, however good, where the manager even there is assessing players. Yes, I do know that it is also about getting bums on seats.

Oh, and by the way, I thought that last night's game was pretty useful and additionally E & B were well up for it - they weren't there just to roll over or make up the numbers.

To me it seems that you are claiming that Ashby is too relaxed and not taking it seriously, which to me is a criticism. I know you have credited Ashby and my post was not aimed just at you, it was aimed at others aswell although there isn't many critics of Ashby.

As usual Alex jumps in with both feet. At no point did I, or have I, at any time critisise BA. Once again the club panicked and sacked a manager at the wrong time, leaving the new one to "make do". Trotty probably had PSFs arranged, we will never know. As stated earlier, the Ryman is unknown territory for some of our players, therefore it would be good for them to experience what they will be up against. Beating inferior opposition may give them confidence, but that may make them over confident. If we play a team above us the manager can see where we need improving and can work on that, that's not being negative, its a fact, and what most other teams plan for. MM and I appear to be on the same wavelength, that doesn't mean we are negative but we will see who is right in a few weeks. I would think that most users on here would like to see how we would cope against a better team. One of the positives with BA is that he has increased training to 3 nights a week, so fitness should be a bonus. He appears to be passionate about what he is doing and we have an envious management team. We have a couple of good signings but I think everybody agrees that we could do with two or three more. When injuries kick in during the season and its a cold wet windy February night, thats when you need depth in the squad. So not all doom and gloom and negative comments Alex, just one fan showing concern, but support.

I think that it appears to be the 'inhetitance syndrome' for someone(BA) who potentially could be a very good manager. By which I mean BA has become the victim of the failure of others( namely his predicessors) to optimise their spend, and obtain enough good players and consistency of results for what seems to have been fair amounts of money that was made available to them. If previous managers have overspent or for what ever reason have not gained the success expected, particularly having 'done the funds up the proverbial' why halve the budget for this season and put the coaching staff, players and fans under so much pressure in such a well established and respected club? I fail to see the business sense of the whole situation and funding should be increased by the board to allow more/ better players to be attracted to the squad. The current scenario only serves to protract the pain of last season and heap further misery upon all concerned if 'expected' results actually materialise during the coming season. That said, and I just had to I'm afraid,I too am confident that as the season progresses the results will come. This will improve confidence and also further some of the players' ability. Who knows........along the way BA may also have some loan players on the fringes champing at the bit to come and play by the second month or so.Well that's me and my opinion. Its not meant as a critisism of anyone other than the those that decided to 'cut' rather than keep the budget the same at least in an ever increasing cost sector. That could have been suicide, it wont be, but it could have been.

I am not saying you have criticised Ashby at all and i agree when you say that we should have played a higher league side, what prompted my response was what MM said which was something along the lines of that Ashby doesn't realise how serious this league is.

I'm sorry if you felt i was having a dig at you, but i wasn't and i wasn't having a dig at anyone in particular. The fact there has been some unfair criticism of Ashby and the team already BEFORE the season has started, especially when it's not their fault.

Also so what if i jump with 2 feet it's how i see things and how perceive some postings and what is going on with the club.

great points made in the above posts.

For me-really difficult one to call-ultimately, i would want the club to survive-as opposed to overspend again-and thus, however much it frustrates-i believe the board have made the right decision to cut the budget-rather than repeat previous errors.

At least we now have someone in Yorath to 'manage the manager' which you may recall i was saying all last season-who manages Trott as he was obviously out of his depth but was allowed to continue.

How will i feel though if after 10 games we have maybe just two points and are sitting bottom of the league ?

Indeed-how will the Board then react-will they somehow find extra funding to buy our way back into safety;or will they continue to let the club slide into ryman south and have the players performing in front of crowds of less than 200 whilst people go to southmead. That scenario is far from impossible.

As it is, i will be surprised if we get many crowds above 300 this coming season.

I'll await final judgement on how the season looks until 15th august, and meanwhile, remain hopeful that we are going to get an imminent announcement of some reasonable signings-(otherwise whats the point of all these psf's -particularly when some of the players are either well enough known-or have made 3/4 friendly appearances already ) just enough to ensure we stay in the league this coming season.

I really do feel its critical to remain in the ryman premiership this season-i want nothing more but feel that anything less would be a real disaster for the club

I'll jump in with both feet. Where do you think the extra money would come from for these experienced signings some of you call for. Your pockets! I doubt it. Get behind the manager and the players. Let the managment team do the rest. I hope and prey these lads prove those of you that are so negative VERY WRONG.

Face it Margate FC are not what they were and do not have the same funds. The way I see it the club either goes this way and invests in the future or goes bust. Of course if MFC went out of business you lot wouldn't have anything to moan about would you lol.
