Holyport 3-5 Slough

A win, but some signs of concern for me against a fairly decent Holyport outfit, who gave us a good test tonight as they did Windsor the other night.

Goals from John Gray, Danny Jordan, Dean Harper, James Pritchard and Roy Gumbs. With Chris Woods scoring twice for 'Port. Don't know their other scorer.

First-half we were pretty much in control, but second half thought they were the better team. We only seemed to be playing in second-gear, but saying that Holyport took the match very seriously.

Still personally think that a centre back to play alongside Daly or Pierson is needed. Still don't think Riddell is a centre back, a right winger and a fourth striker are needed.

Had our first look at McGoinigley, looked decent enough. No Fenton or Platt tonight, and no sign of Saturday's trialist Max Howell who played for Northwood last night against Barnet.

That's 18 goals in 3 matches now!

Decent performance, especially in the first half where we were in control and couldve have more goals quite easily. Second half the changes to the team meant that Holyport came back into the game.

Thought that in the first half Pritchard (who had a fantastic game in my opinion), Gray and Jordan tore their defence apart.

Looking forward to Saturday and seeing what comes from it. We have the makings of a good team maybe a couple more players needed though.

Yeah have to echo Chris' points really.

The goals conceded seemed to come from a bit of poor defending I think, was a couple of times where Beams came calling for balls that he didn't collect or seemed to ignore balls that he could have come to collect. Saying that Daly too seems to have a habit of calling for balls and then not getting anywhere near them.

Think the play needs to be spread down the right a bit more, was played alot down the left in the first half. Seemed to be plenty of times where Roberts was free down the right.

Personally I thought Harper had a good game along with Pritchard.

I think once the full backs situation is sorted i.e. Maconigley at right back and Fenton at left back we should be a lot tighter with the two centre backs from Pierson, Harper and Daly.

Shame about Max Howell seemingly favouring Northwood because I think he could have been the alternative to having two big relatively slow centre backs.

Matthew Platt was there tonight and had his kit on before the warm up so I assume he's carrying an injury.

Guest Reardon was God

Must not get carried away, the three teams we have beaten so far are only one up from park teams. Witney FC. will be a better test i feel.

Doesnt say too much for you considering you were outplayed in the second half by holyport who are 'just one step up from a park team'.

I wouldn't say right back was a problem position, Harper plays well there and John Ellis can also fill in at right back, although i'd much rather see him on the right hand side of Mid-field.

Feel we have a strong squad with great additions in Danny Jordan and the Platt fellow. Looking forward to a successful season.

Harpers main strengths are his heading ability and his reading of the game. By his own admission his main weekness is his lack of pace. This tends to get exagerated and imo becomes a problem when he gets isolated in the full back position and gets run at by a speedy winger. So ideally, because they are fullbacks, I think I would like to see either Ryan Fenton or Eamonn Maconigley play there.
