it is alleged by those in the city tower blocks that informal chats with the fleet began way back last summer and that a london based club was always the goal (sic) that narrowed it down somewhat and probably fleet was the only viable option when taking money location and availability into account..

I hope the memberships are high enough next february and I shall do my little bit to help but I cannot rid myself of this nagging thought that the reason for buying fleet and the way the deal was structured were bred from self interest and not from a purely commercial MyFc viewpoint....

new club.. midlands based.. was the only really viable option..

that said it was the fleet and of course the possibility does exist of memberships falling for various reasons much debated on here so I reckon its all hands to the pumps...you have to get more people through the gate (and the fans can really help in that respect) and DD and JM have to work their sponsorship magic...

where there is a will....grin

You cannot deny that DD has hit the ground running to try to improve the Fleet experience in the short term.

The only long term improvement is of course either a new ground, or failing that a significant rebuild of Stonebridge Road if it were to be decided to remain here for most of the remaining lease.

Uncs is right about location. I know that much was made at the time about accessibility for MyFC members overseas, but in reality only a handful of them will ever come over, and what else could we expect? It's a lot to ask. However, Stonebridge Road is a long way to get to from most places north of the Midlands. And that is also the case at away matches, remember - most locals don't travel and never will. I went to a number of away games last season and saw the same few original fans every time.

It might seem a minor point, for an internet-based society - but if you can't get to the games you don't really feel part of it IMO.

Actually Sal - he's talking bullshit.

MyFC came close to concluding a deal to buy Halifax when Ralph was threatening to put the club into administration. Looking at how things have panned out we were very fortunate it ddin't happen.

A deal with Leigh RMI was even closer (details were outlined on the RMI messageboard and there were signifiant recriminations within the club that it didn't happen). The only thing that appears to have prevented the deal at that time was a desire by EUFC owners to move on a deal and the fact that Wigan council wouldn't give guarantees about RMI playing at the new stadium. There were also concerns about RMI getting rooted to the bottom of the CN table and likely impact on sign-ups if the club got relegated.

So there was no laid-out plan to purchase a club around London. It happened because it was the best available deal at the time.
