Team v Carlshalton

Still 3 and half weeks to go, but halfway through the psf's now so BA needs to start whittling his 40 or so triallists down to a squad i should think.

Time remains for BA to sign ferdinand and Drogba, but based on what we know, read, have seen, fantasise about, it currently looks as though the team to face Carlshalton could look something like this:

SCS (i hope)

Hickman Smith Young, Robinson

Peters, Wilson Stubbs, Gregory

Pratt, Taylor.

I'd keep well clear of 'wide midfield players'-keep it tight, allow Gregory to cover Robinson and give Peters a bit of a free role on the right.(you don't need someon to cross the ball as at this level players cannot deliver a good cross anyway and Pratt and Taylor have enough pace through the middle )

Appreciate not all signed, but based on appearances in friendlies it looks like These players are pretty close to being in BA's team.

Maybe Corbishley at right back in preference to Hickman, and Dominic did enough last night to push Young to a contract.(maybe both then you perm 2 from 3 of young, smith and Dominic.

Up front seems to be a real problem-but again-based on just 45 minutes -but equally their scoring record for the rserves,Pratt and Taylor earned the right last night for more opportunities and as a pair looked quite threatening.(maybe up front is the one area that you can take a chance with.

Yes-i know there are three and a half weeks to go; but how would that team fair againt Carlshalton ?

Almost certainly get beaten, but disgraced - no.

Is that team good enough to get sufficient points to avoid relegation-it possibly is - so all is not lost

Like you say,3 weeks or so to go yet & there might well be more comings & goings before the first game.As it is though & at this time,I cant disagree with any of the above Michael except to say there must be a place in there for the more experienced Paul Smith,if & when fit.

The line up you show above will do "okay" I reckon without getting rave reviews.

Most of all I agree,BA needs to find a pack of players that can mould together very soon & get to know each other better. That includes playing together more often in the remaining friendlies.

Whittling down the pack seems an obvious move to make about now.

Open letter to Keith Piper

Dear Mr Piper some of our fans fear we have no chance of staying up in the Ryman Premier League as we have ayoung squad.

Please save us all time, money and effort by confirming we will accept automatic demotion to the Kent League by 15th August to satisfy an element of our fan base

Thank you

Seem to remember a certain poster moaning last season about our "experienced" team, I wonder who that was grin

Am sure Keith would love to meet you Steve to discuss your view!

i dont entirely agree with that lineup...

SCS should be in goal, hes far better than Bowles... Quain should be left midfield, with Gregory at left back... Corbishley i think is a better right back than Hickman... and Coleman will almost definately be starting upfront. he and Peters can both play centre forward and right midfield, so they may switch positions from time to time... i agree with Wilson, Young and Smith being in the team... im undecided on Stubbs, and i cannot comment on Pratt and Taylor, i havent seen them play...

StuyR-i suspect that in reality-Quain and Coleman will be in BA's team-although not in my 'armchair selection'.

I'd like to think that my omission of Quain and coleman, is not so much a question of 'dropping' them; but more a reassurance that there is some other talent around in this side.

Also the team needs balance;and as we will be under pressure, i would play it narrow and cautiously and cram the midfield and endeavour to control the game-rather than play wide men.

In the 2 games that I have seen him play,Stubbs has improved each time.Settling in maybe but he was well worth watching last night. Okay,he got caught napping on a couple of occasions but overall he ran that left side midfield. Wayne "Bruce" Wilson worked well alongside of him & is always looking to fire in shots at goal. Something we have been lacking in recent years.

Am disappointed with Aaron on the wing there.Dutch_Mike mentioned elsewhere that the guys down the wings don't seem to want to run at defenders & he is right.

Coleman looks as if it is going to be a long while yet before he gets into any kind of form worth mentioning.

Corbishley would always be first on my team sheet, trouble is he is recovering from an illness too I believe. In time he will become our first choice for the full backs role or even right side of midfield.Having said that Hickman has done well.

A mention for Sol Pinnock was made by Dutch_Mike too & he WAS quite nippy & might be worth inclusion in the final squad.

The squads coming together nicely I feel & for those that are concerned for this season I reckon theres no need. Its not going to be a stroll by any means & we'll struggle in some games but I think we will do enough to maintain our Ryman Premier status.

A decent bunch ARE coming together i.m.o. & yes an addition of maybe two or 3 old heads would improve things no-end but as it is we'll be competitive,I have no doubts on that score.

Just about agree with you Cookie and overall BA has got the semblance of a squad coming together.

All i am looking for is a team to stave off relegation..

I'm not certain we are there yet though,as there is a massive difference between playing a friendly on a nice summers day /evening to a wet ,windy night in essex with 6'4'' ryman seasoned pro's kicking it out of you.

The opposition has not exactly been ryman standard to date,so i still think once the league gets underway, we are in for a very rude awakening, but if they can survive the first few games, maybe there will be just enough there to keep us in the division.

The problem is-you need to make a fast start as by the end of september, the league is a quarter over, and unless you get early points, it can be all over for you by september.

Indeed we do have much stiffer tests to come. No denying that. Friendly wise-Thamesmead & Cray will be gradual step up from what we've played so far & will be bigger tests for the lads.

1st choice keeper SCS, no 2 Mullin.

Centre defence any 2 from 3 Smith, Young or Dominic.

The left side any 2 from a choice of 3 Quain, Robinson, and Gregory.

Centre mid P.Smith plus one other from Stubbs, Morris, Wilson.

The right side Corbishley and McAree, so long as they're fit. They'll run at and open up any defence.

Up front (and cover down the right) Peters and Coleman.

Up front Pratt and Taylor.

Utility player along the back and in midfield Hickman.

IF ALL FIT MY ACTUAL STARTING LINE UP WOULD BE.

SCS

CORBISHLEY, SMITH, YOUNG, GREGORY

MCAREE, P.SMITH, WILSON, QUAIN

PETERS, COLEMAN

YET AT THIS PRESENT MOMENT IN TIME IT'S I'D SAY THE LINE UP WILL BE

MULLIN

HICKMAN, SMITH, YOUNG, GREGRORY

PETERS, WILSON, STUBBS, QUAIN

TAYLOR, PRATT
