Witney United lost 5-2 against premier side Gloucester City last night.I realise friendlies are no real guide, but would give us an idea where we are after playing them Saturday.

Its all down to what teams they put out - our performance tonight against Eton Wick will not reflect Sloughs ability as it is a junior and trialist team. If our junior/trialist team win 1-0 tonight does that mean our first team would have won 10-0?

At this stage the numbers dont mean anything - it is only on the 16th of August that things start to count.

assuming the manager will be fielding an idea of his best team at some stage, he/we can still assess the prospects ahead-and probably more so the individual player-i know friendlies are just that, and you could lose them all and still win the league and vice versa, but having run a team for many years i always found it a useful exercise, otherwise you may just as well not play any and all go down the gym.

i am also not a believer in just consolidating our league position this year, and like me all the players shoould have ambition to win the league at least-yet again, otherwise why bother turning up..........
