Dean Pooley

Recommended Posts

Reading his profile and for whom he has played, I do wonder if he tends to slacken once under contract and if he is sidelined, Perhaps liam can pull the strings and up his motivation for a full season. Does anyone else have any further knowledge on him.

Critical I know, but that's how I read it. Hoped to be proved wrong.

Is he any relation to former legend Charlie Pooley?

One of my favourite goals was in a mudbath at Frickley when Charlie got the ball just inside our half and kept pushing the ball forward as it stuck in the mud, finally unleashing a shot from the edge of the area, awesome and I think part of a hat trick. Fleet won 4-1.(c1981.)

What a game that was, played against the backdrop of the old colliery slag heap. I think it actually finished 2-4 to the Fleet, with us racing into a 3-0 lead, Garry Aldous coming on as sub & getting sent off; them pulling it back to 2-3, until Kenny Burrett released Charlie Pooley for the goal you describe. I have some photos somewhere.

But the Hod wasn't as good.

Hoddle wasn't as good as Charlie but he did find god you know...helluva pass?

Interesting chap God, he reckoned he had a better beard than Kenny but he didn't dare say that to Kenny.

Aah! Frickley Athletic ...... takes my mind back.

I had the need to visit Netto's head office in South Elmsall, Near Pontefract just a week or so ago. Frickley's ground being in South Elmsall I thought I'd take a look to see how its holding up after all these years. Gates were open so I wandered in. Pitch looked okay, but the terraces and main stand ..... oh dear. and we thought Stonebridge Road was bad?

Slag heap opposite is still there although there appeared to be a lot of earthmoving equipment working on it, it looks very much like a new road is being built.

The ground mirrored the town though, run-down and in need of a lick of paint of two.
