All eyes on AKINDE

Arguably, we had our own Akinde in Lawrence Yiga.

In the NLP as Lawrence Yima-but was actually Yiga-and trialled for Torquay on saturday.

Who remembers Trotts alleged encouraging words to the younger players: 'i can't be bothered to work with the youngsters' (or very similar)

A bit of a step up for Yiga and only on trial.

Did not exactly endear himself to their supporters:

Came on in the 2nd half and demanded to take the penalty (Stood over the ball as soon as it was given) but my lord, he made a hash of that. And he has the first touch of a donkey, Doesn't tackle and can't pass.

Off load him Bucks.

He was just about ok at our level-and with decent coaching, (and effort from him) maybe could have been our own Akinde.

Although i only saw him twice, i must admit-i similarly could not see anything in Akinde-although i do recall rating Akpo Sodge when all around were criticising him.

Arguably Akinde last season shows the way for our squad this season. We had Akinde on loan, but prefered Rob Haworth or Charlie Side, so John made his appearances for us from the bench. He was recalled to Ebbsfleet, and still couldn't get a first team place & was loaned out to Whitstable. He impresses at Whitstable & gets recalled to Ebbsfleet, spends some time on the bench, forces a spot in the starting line-up, plays a blinder in the FA Trophy final & is now subject to a

For me, the interest in Akinde is that we probably had a chance to sign him permanent (we signed Coleman afterall in similar circumstances),it shows an example to what younger players can achieve-with the right guidance and coaching`,it shows how trott did not get the best out of him-though in fairness to Mr Trott-i think very few supporters recognised the potential that Akinde had ,because he was very lack lustre at margate (and whitstable ?).

AS above-also an interesting comparison with our own discarded Yiga-now trialling at Torquay.

At the lower levels of the league and in non league-a strong bustling forward always does well.

Talking of which-i thought Holden had signed for Ramsgate-i see he is not listed in their 2008/9 squad-is he still injured ?

It also begs the question-is Akinde being over hyped-i can't help wondering that ?

I thought their end of season run, came just after Akinde left them.

Either way-maybe Akinde was the catalyst.

You often find that teams who close the season well, continue that momentum into the new season-maybe Whitstable will be the relative surprise package this year and be in contention for play-offs.

Surely in April-we will not be contemplating Whitstable and Margate exchanging leagues- PLEASE NO

Going entirely from memory, didn't Ebbsfleet pull both Akinde and Coleman back for whatever reason and also wasn't it Luke Coleman who initially made the headlines there? I also seem to remember Liam Daish being quite complimentary regarding Robin Trott's encouragement of LC.
