Behind the goal terrace and entrance cost..!

Recommended Posts

I know the vote on this year's ticket prices is due to come up soon, so all thoughts are appreciated. I suspect the majority of MyFC members will be of a mind to freeze the prices as they did with season tickets.

It would be nice if there were some way to measure how many extra people turned up today because of the lower price, but there isn't.

My brother-in-law said exactly the same. He took his five-year-old for only the second time today, and he's no shrinking violet in terms of standing on football terraces, but even he said the language was way too choice for families from some of the morons who are there and wondered if there could be a family enclosure.

Just goes to prove not all the morons vanished after the 70/80's

Maybe, but really - what are the options?

The seats HAVE to stay behind the goal...

And that area is 'traditionally' going to be the area where the most vocal fans congregate.

A lot of Premier league clubs are experimenting with moving AWAY fans from behind a goal, cos it has been "proved" this gives the team some advantage. If this is true, do we really want to lose that advantage by moving the drummer and singers? Or should the families be encouraged to sit elsewhere?

Roll on the new stadium!!

Have to agree, some of the language at yesterday's game was choice, but making it simply a family enclosure there would certainly cause me problems, with the advancing of age, I find the seats are certainly a need as opposed to a luxury; standing a whole 90 minutes plus half time is to be perfectly honest difficult and I really don't like sitting int the other stand; there has to be a way to either 'tone down' or move the language problem.

I don't think he was saying make that area a family enclosure, but the fact is with a small kid he needs to sit, so he can't go on some of the other terraces. So the option would be to make part of the main stand a family area, or perhaps a small section behind the goal nearer the MyFC corner and away from the mass of fans.

I was aware of this yesterday and a discussion with Chris Baker who was acting as Safety Officer yesterday. Chris used to be a Safety Officer at the ground and is now Leyton Orient's Stadium Manager and Safety Officer - he helped me select our new appointee.

Our new Safety Officer, Gary Barber, was also there going around the ground incognito, to check out what goes on.

I was really disappointed because I had met a lady that morning who was signing up her 2 sons for Junior Fleet tickets. She complained about the "Foul and Abusive" language as the police refer to it. And told us she would never be returning. Chris searched her out and discussed it with her. Then Cheryl went to find her, apologised and asked her not to give up on us yet. I will be ringing her tomorrow to apologise and discuss further too.

We have a meeting on Thursday with our Safety Officer Police Intelligence officer and will agree a plan to sort this out. I understand there is an element of swearing at most matches but the type of language used yesterday was completely unacceptable.

I don't really know the story behind the the people involved and will be discussing with Club staff, but if anyone would care to enlighten me either here or by PM I would appreciate it.

If we sort the behaviour, a family area is not so critical. However it is something I am interested in looking at, in terms of viability and what level of benefit it would bring. So again, any suggestions very welcome.

Regarding entry prices, something I am already looking at. It could well be that members of MyFC end up voting on that one, so I need to ensure we have well reasoned arguments in place to aid their decision-making.

The time-frame concerns me - do we have time to go through a review process and vote with MyFC and what are the ramifications of changing prices once the season has started, if we don't decide before that?

As has been said before, It is not everyone behind the goal that are involved in the foul language. I know for a fact, that Scott and Kenny and these sorts of people go to most, if not every, away game. At most away games, there is still some swearing, but not as much as there was yesterday. If you were to get rid of the drum and the singers, then you'd be losing an advantage that even Liam Daish said helps the team. I am sure that some people would be able to supply you with the names of those who attatch themselves to the drummer and are part of the less desirable element of football crowds.

David, discussing the ticket price at this late stage just seems like another area of missmanagement by MyFC.

I am not blaming you in anyway as obviously this took place before your appointment but it does highlight the problems with having amateurs, albeit well intentioned amateurs, making decisions that they neither have the experience or the knowledge to make.

The match day price cannot be set in isolation from the season ticket price, the whole concept of buying a season ticket is that in return for paying your money upfront you get discounted entry to all the games, if you haven't decided what the matchday ticket price is how can you possibly set a season ticket price?

I've made similar comments to the Board's Chairman regarding ticket pricing already...

On the swearing - I've been going to matches long enough now to recognise Scott, Kenny etc.

It will be a job for the new Safety Officer to sort, I had a quick conversation with him after the match and we'll discuss and agree an approach on Thursday, along with the Police Intelligence Officer.

Nice to see that at least the problem with the stand behind the goal is being looked into. i Still believe it should be a family , oap, kids stand etc and the singing element should be moved to the side stand. I am convinced this would attract more families to the ground, the lady mentioned above is a shinning example.

Sorry to have to object to your suggestion, but moving the abusive people (real fans or trouble makers, who knows) to the Stonebridge Road stand is simply moving the problem on not solving it. What you suggest just inflicts the swearing etc on those who prefer to stand rather than sit at games. I wouldn't stay around that area for very long if they moved in there and I doubt if several others would either. I wonder what the Halfway Liners would make of this too?
