Fleet 0 v Charlton 6!!

Recommended Posts

To put the match into perspective, Charlton were excellent, well organised, passing and moving quickly and they had the benefit of a game last Wednesday, not to mention the small fact of course that they are 3 divisions above us and a top Championship side at that, they sent pretty much their strongest line up and it showed. We are a very good Blue Square Premier side but the lads were punching well above their weight today. I still feel though that this fixture would have been a better spectacle if it had been played about 3 weeks later, when the new lads would have settled in and we would of played a couple of friendlies against lower opposition. We had several trialists playing and it looked like a trials match, maybe having it against Charlton Athletic 1st team wasn't the time to do it, it's hard to impress or show your true ability when you can't get near the ball. Liam is One of the best Managers we have ever had at the club, but I'm not sure what he learned from this fixture, hopefully some of these lads will get another chance.

I think that the total abstain vote is actually about 29,000.

I was surprised the MyFC members that did vote to pick the team didn't select Darius Charles. Yes, he scored in 12 seconds (the wrong way), but in the games he played for us last year he was excellent. Of course, with a good number of players listed as unfit Saturday morning, and MyFC not having any of the trialists to choose from, the team Liam picked was somewhat different from the MyFC selection, but I'm not sure if that tells us anything yet. I was surprised, however, by how many voted for Option 1. I figured Option 2 would carry the biggest percentage. Sorry about the result, but not completely unexpected against their senior squad.

IMO of yesterday's triallists , Effy , Mario & Tyrone all deserve serious consideration at this level ( ie not v a Championship team ) . As does Isaiah , although from my point of view that is probably out of a desperate need to still sign a striker or two !

As for poor Cedric - well , on the plus side he's tall ... erm ... has fine child-bearing hips , reminded this older fan of Leroy Bess , and probably wouldn't look out of place in a Tom and Jerry cartoon in the not too distant future .

Going back to THAT drunken lout, of course the stewards blew the chance to demonstrate credibility and authority.

The same stewards who waded into the main stand en masse last year to try to eject a 10 year old lad who dared to stand up.

The same ones who attempted to evict me for holding a camera.

Sadly, they were still useless.

The prat should have been ejected, banned for the season, as should anyone else chanting foul obscenities.

The club simply does not need thugs like this.

Lose them and they will be replaced with whole families.

Must say that some of the trialists really impressed. Our number 14 (anyone know who it was?) stood out for me.

I was also impressed with Craig Stone, he seemed to play well.

Would've been nice to have a better scoreline but we must consider, some of the first teamers from last season failed fitness tests before the game so didn't get a starting place. Even some of those on the field of play weren't 100% match fit.

Torpoint Athletic and Bodmin town next up on Thursday and Saturday. Let's hope we can bring more out of the trialists and get the likes of Luke Moore, Paul MacCarthy and John Akinde into the starting lines ups for those games.

I think number 14 was or is Issiah Rankin, I thought that towards the end of the game, different trialist came on and we then started performing better. Unless Charlton were bored and eased off of course

I hope that he has an equally illustrious career as the last fleet player to be called Cedric
