John Akinde in 442 magazine.

This month there is an interview with John Griffin (the scout who discovered Ian Wright, Stan Collymore, Gavin Mahon and Alan Pardew amongst others).

The last question is this:

Let us into a secret: who has caught your eye recently?

His answer:

I've been impressed with John Akinde at Ebbsfleet. He helped them win the FA Trophy. I first saw him when he was 18 and working at a cinema in Gravesend. He's raw but has natural talent and might even grace the top flight. If he went into a Premier league reserve side now in 18 months he could be worth a lot of money.

It does seem inevitable that his going to move onto bigger and better things but his also young and should just focus on enjoying playing football and forget about the money for a year. His still raw, with a lot of talent and he won't develop this in Peterborough's reserves.

The best deal for the Club may be for them to take the money from Peterborough but to arrange for him to stay on a season long loan at the Fleet. The Club get to keep a quality striker, while Akinde gets another years experience under his belt rather than most likely languishing in Peterborough's reserves. Fry intimates this himself "Akinde is one for the future and we met the asking price we were given to be able to talk to the player."

In the Reporter, Liam indicates that Darren Ferguson (Peterborough Manager) has accepted the deal is over for time being but Barry Fry is stirring it up like a hornets nest.

Who's told him that?

4. Wherever possible, any fee for such a deal should primarily be used to re-invest in the squad.

The only way to settle this is Daish takes Fry on, 12 rounds. I know who my money's on. And it's not the little fat fella.

Now I would pay money to see thatgrin

So why couldn't Daish spend any of the money if he was sold?

We will get money for him, Rich, contract or no contract. Because he is under 21 (23?), a fee will be set by an FA tribunal. They would probably value him has he is at the moment, rather than how he will be 3 or 4 years hence, which means we probably will lose out to a degree. And I am unsure whether the Tribunal can stipulate that there will be a sell on clause.

As you said, it's a tough call, but at the end of the day, if Big John is going to be good enough for Championship or Premiership football (and if Sam S can do it, so can John A), he will do it quicker by leaving us than by staying with us.

Sad fact, but true.
