Player Movements.....Worrying

Observator, all I can say about Gregory - if he has signed for you lot - is that you could do far far worse. When Dean Hill was suspended last season for us, I suggested to JW that we brought Gregs in, but Wardy agreed with you (that he wasn't up to it). I have to say though, that I never saw him put in a bad performance for us. He was one of those players who might not have had exceptional ability, but who would put in 110%. A bit like Simon Pettit if I may say so. What I'd say though, is that he could definitely cut it at Ryman Premier in my opinion.

Also, as I think I have said before, I hear you have brought Elliot Payne in from the youth side. Although I haven't seen him play for a good few years, I can tell you that he definitely used to have ability at school. Dutch Mike might confirm this. Whether he'll be too lightweight at Ryman level remains to be seen, but I'm not sure you're going to quite be relegation fodder like the bookies suggest. Just like us over here on the red side, I think there are loads of players who we'll just have to wait and see about. I mean, look at us. We have signed players like Kinch from Birchington, which is a massive step up, so we don't know either, how some of our players will turn out.

I just don't think you should be too negative until you actually see how disastrous (or may be surprisingly feisty) they will be.

it seems sensible to wait for official confirmation that Gregory has been signed. (hopefully forthcoming shortly along with others)

However-in anticipation -is Gregory a left back ,or a left central midfield player ?

No one knows how we're gonna get on this term. All we've got is hope and also doubts so we'll have to wait and see.

Personally I think we're going down. The good news about that would be that we won't need an "IMMENANT" announcement about the stadium 'cos it won't need improving for Ryman One.

My other concern is our managers lack of credentials. Yorath and Southall coming in to assist Trott would have made more sense than to try hoping Ashby "may or may not" cut it. Very baffling.

Maybe Trott was too 'stubborn' /proud for his own good.

Whilst i have not personally seen or heard Ashby, reading between the lines, his general demeanour and approach seems very good.

Do wish he would sign some 'quality' though ,just the same

Ok, maybe after sleeping on it I was being a bit over protective of the young lads, but don't forget I have seen them play many times in the past few seasons so I feel I know them better than most on here. I can see why people are concerned but to come out, like some have, saying they will not cut it in the Premier League only time will tell on that one.

Anyway at least it livened up the forum during pre season! grin

That's a fair comment Michael but as I saw last year, and others must have too, the likes Maidstone known as physical but not an overly gifted side were beaten more by football, and 'bruising' the oposition cost them bookings and sendings off. Not that all in this league are that way inclined but my point is that a combination of good touch, awareness, speed of thought and feet and fitness I believe will gain more good results in this league and the lads so far are showing all of the above, for the most part at least.BA and team are also very aware of what is needed to stay in this league and to push on.Remember also that a further window later in the season will allow for new blood if required and further strengthen an already developing squad. I for one am very confident that we are not relegation fodder but to echo what others have said the proof will be on the pitch. I hear that there might be a game this Saturday, friendly of course, but not confirmed yet though.

Gregory played the whole season that Ramsgate won ryman div 1 south, and was still there in the ryman prem the season after, so surely his experience is better than none at all? Part of a winning squad? experience of playing at div 1 and ryman prem? surely some of that experience will help the young lads and the team? that must be a positive?

Hickman has been at Dover and has played for and worked with more experienced players/coaches, so surely that experience is better than none at all.. and like you said his attitude is quality so surely some of that will rub off onto the young lads... is that not a positive?
