Beware all you ESL clubs

Recommended Posts

There is a manager of a former ESL club now in Ryman 1 North who is phoning up players direct at home who have already signed ESL forms for their club and offering them financial inducements to join him for next season.

We have already just lost one player (who has ben publicised in the Romford Recorder as signing for us) this way and another has turned him down. diabolo

Yeah, I have heard from a couple of clubs where this has been happening to one or more of their players! Total lack of respect if you ask me.

Lightweight...why have you just deleted your post????????????

My fault JJ. I suggested to Litesome that (in my view) we needed to take the TOTAL moral high ground on this issue!

After all the person responsible for this unprofessional and unbusinesslike behaviour knows who this thread is aimed at and is a very poor representative for his club.

If the manager in question has a players home phone number, they must have spoken to him at some point to have this information, after all it is not readily available?

And unless they are on contract terms, however unprofessional it may be it is totally legal?

And as far as I am aware this happens at all levels of the game fom the top to the bottom, Ashley Cole?

Anyone want to elaborate on which club, or are is it an open statement, there are not that many former ESL clubs in the Ryman are there?

I have just received a PM from Woodsy who has just taken over at Ilford and am pleased to clarify that my original post is not aimed at him or any managers who are newly taking over a club for the 2008/9 season but one who is established at his club and should know better.

There are lots of former ESL clubs in the Ryman and while the action in question may be legal it is unprofessional to do this to any club which is working hard to prepare a good and balanced squad for their 2008/9 non league football campaign and sullies the overall good name of the club that the manager represents.

Perhaps he might be brave enough at some time to come on this forum and justify his actions other than for purely mercenary reasons.

With all due respect, get a grip.

If you think people arnt going to contact players and ask them if they would want to play at a higher level you must live a shelterd life.

Thats the way the world works, players want to play at a higher level and the clubs at the higher level want the better players.

The manager in question whoever it maybe can phone who he wants when he wants, its non league football and unltimately the decision lies with the player.

How do you think players move between clubs, I bet you 99% start with a phone call...!!

TB&G, while you raise a good point that it is highly unprofessional, remember that we are not a professional league, and player movement and contact between managers and players is something that has and always will happen....

Blimey, I moved clubs after chatting on the forum......

TIC - well said, it is one of those things that happens, what player at ESL or Ryman 1 level doesn't have the number of a few other managers, or vice versa

If the manager in question feels the need to defend himself I'm sure he will, but has actions are not uncommon, and at the end of the day, what is loyalty in a world contolled purely by money, players want the biggest wage possible, sad but true....

I think you're wrong Professor Klein.

I am sure anyone with half a brain cell can work out the clubs involved.

Tbag - Whilst I can see you being p*ssed off, like everyone else has said, this thing happens.

If a player wants to go player at a higher standard, how can you deny him of that?

It seems from many of the posts my thread has induced that ethics, honesty and good manners are things of the past and that a signature on a contract (which is a two way thing let me remind you) is completely valueless!

Between leagues it is valueless. A player has been offered to go to a higher level i think a pat on the back and congratulations are in order. I dont know of anyone being dishonest. I had it a few times as my short stint as a manager and if a player in not under contract it is meaningless its a REGISTRATION FORM not a CONTRACT.

OK I used the wrong word but there IS a proper way to go about things which, in this case, is through the manager of the club that the player in question is already officially registered with and this procedure was not followed.

Paul Martin is on record as having stated that he would not stand in the way of any of his players who received an offer to play at a higher level.

So why go behind his back? That is what sticks in the craw!

Really? Why? Is it a guilt thing or is it just a lack of common courtesy?

Anyhow, this is my last post on this thread. I have said all I want to say and have made very clear my feelings on the subject.

I appreciate that players and opposing managers talk...but sureley at any level of the game, a little respect must come into play. I agree with you Tb&G

Frew? who is he then??? (no banter)

Sorry I had to break my word to answer Jerry's question.

Matt Frew was a permanent ressie central defender and also played a few first team games at Romford season before last then moved to Barkingside for last season. Had serious illness and missed the end of last season. Came back to Romford recently for training together with Paul Kavanagh and Brian Suchley who also played for the Boro 2006/7. PK and BS (both ex Barkingside) were both over training at Rush Green yesterday evening which is when I was told about the circumstances surrounding the departure of MF which led to the start of this thread.
