Peterborough pull out of Akinde deal

Recommended Posts

Not sure how old this news is, but apparently Peterborough have withdrawn a 100k bid for John Akinde, because Barry Fry reckons that Liam Daish has gone back on his word to allow John to talk to them. I personally feel that in todays transfer market, Akinde is worth at least 200k and Liam has done the right thing.

yep very good shout there. big john would get nothing out of going to peterborough because they already have about 6 strikers and most of them are either very good like mackail-smith and mcclean and reasonable like rendell and howe.

I'm never quite sure. I always thought Trevor Francis was overvalued at a million quid and yet Ole Bigmouth set the ball rolling. On his day, John's pace and dribbling skills are very good. He caused alsorts of problems with Aldershot in the first leg of the semifinal. Though I agree the money is useful, proven players are moreso.

I would hold out for a lot more for two reasons. (1) he still has a chance to develop at The Fleet and so his value would increase. And (2) it sends a signal to the other clubs that the Fleet are not going down the typical non-league route of short-termism.

Onwards and upwards!!!

1) Johns current value is due to his potential and is based on a few good games in January and his Wembley appearance, if he doesn't start fulfilling that potential in terms of goals and exceptional performances his value will go down this season, if he gets injured or continues to fail to complete 90 minutes due to stamina problems his value will go down.
2) York City sent that same signal with Clayton Donaldson two seasons ago, they turned down
