2008/9 ESL Season start important announcement

It has just been announced that the new season will officially start with games on the 9th and 13th of August thus giving clubs a couple of competitive games under their belts before the Extra Prelim FA Cup ties on Saturday 16th.

I had heard (while not being there) that the vote for the 16th was based on the (erroneous as it happens) belief that most if not all the ESL teams would get a bye for the FAC extra prelim round and could start their league fixtures on that date. But please correct me if I'm wrong.
