Halifax

Looking through the posts, I've seen a number of people mention that Halifax had nothing to play for. Well, you could have fooled me. They fought for every ball, corner, thorw on and free kick. Full credit to them. Not only did it make the victory all the more sweeter but it alos showed what a great league the conference is. Exceptimg Chester who have rolled over since their play off place was secure. Ok so they put a show on for the cameras yesterday but I know they're the one team I don't want to win the play offs!

Agree with you about Halifax, but surely only up until half time? In the first half, they concocted some nice build up play, but lacked a deciding final ball; the second half they were a shadow of the same side, and it was to Gravesend's credit that they took over the initiative, posession and chances. Liam Hatch looks quite a find! Nice to see a crowd at Stonebridge Road akin to the days when Welling turned up (hmph!!) but, despite such local differences, it would be churlish of me not to congratulate you on staying up!!

Can't agree with you about Chester. They were the dullest team to play us this year, so I hope thay get promoted so that I don't have to watch them next season.

We have a great defence providing all stay fit...will Aaron stay..I hope so....also Lovett and Sturgess look good cover (will they want to be 'squad players'?...on top of that I hope Wilkins stays..the man is a rock , defence or attack, and he can show Liam, Budge etc how to win a header and hold up a ball.
we need a proven striker (alas not like the ex shots has been), this may be contraversial to many, but there is a Canvey player who scores at 0.9 goals per game who may be fed up being runner-up again and again in front of feeble fans! So how about it Mr Ford..would Mr Boylan be interested.
Even more outrageous..how about another ex rival in Neil Emblen (Just released by Norwich).
Whatever next year holds, we wont be frightened now!!!!!

I agree about Halifax they certainly weren't going through the motions, a bit unfair to pick on Chester I think Donny and D&R have also gone through the motions since clinching play off places, look how easy Yeovil beat them both, I don't blame the clubs but this stupid play off system, without it there'd be four teams battling for the second place and promotion, all comes down to money though as usual.

Playing against Yeovil is one thing, but look at Chester's results once they were no longer able to get the automatic slot.

Woking (H) draw with two goals in last 5 minutes

Nuneaton (A) lost

Farnborough (H) lost

Those results could have had a massive effect on the relegation positions at the end of the season, and certainly helped make us wait until the last match.

Well I can't imagine Yeovil would have beaten Donny and D&R so comfortably if they'd been battling for a second automatic promotion place, and as you say Chester's non performances could effect the relegation spots but nobody thinks of this when they introduced play offs just how much money they'd make!

I think that it was just unlucky this season that four clubs made the playoffs so quickly.

If you look at the Nationwide Laegues there are still a number of issues to resolve on the last day of the season at the top and the bottom.

NOW COME ON HOW CAN YOU SAY WILKS CAN HEAD OR SHOULD I SAY HE CAN SHOW LIAM A THING OR TWO ABOUT WINING HEADERS WELL I MUST BE BLIND BUT IM SURE LIAM MUST WIN ABOUT 98% OF HEADERS AND OFTEN GIVES OTHER SIDES A LESSON IN HEADERS,WELL THATS MY VIEW.?

Wilko is surely the best header of a ball that we have.

He's proved this when playing up front (where he's also extremely proficient at holding the ball up well) and at the back (where he's also extremely proficient and robust in the challenge)

For his height alone he should be applauded for the amount of headers he wins when he has no right to - often against taller opposition.

He's certainly one player I think we desperately need to keep on the books for next season.
