This Family Fun Day...

When I saw this thread and the one Tony posted on MyFC, I dropped Gadgetman a PM and by sheer luck he was online and answered immediately. He's frustrated that he wasn't able to be on the job a month ago to sort this out himself, but timing being what it is, he's tying up final loose ends at his previous job. He has called as many people as he could to get movement on this asap. It's unfortunate we missed the boat on the Charlton game/fun day full media blitz, but I think David's on top of this particular need for the future.

When I spoke to Moules yesterday he said that in a way the Trophy has set us back a bit as we have taken our eye off the ball.

At first you'd sort of think that this is just a throw away comment but it just goes to show that even in the summer he is always thinking what can we do next. The most important thing we must remember is that, unlike previous seasons, close season no longer means close season. Unfortunately I think we're just two months behind where we want to be.

However this just means we need to do that little bit extra until we catch up.

Someone on MyFC is doing some posters, it is our responsibilty as locals to make sure they're seen by the locals. I'll post the link when they're done.

rsheard has saved me repeating myself, in his post at the top of this page. Thanks!

I am really disappointed that we won't be making the capital from this that we could have. We need to manage our communications a lot better but the Club is really in limbo at the moment.

For example, Keith (Yorkfox) posted the agenda that was put up on MyFC on 20th June.

Well as you can imagine, initial proposals often change and I think we'll find that will happen here too. The problem is that we have set an expectation, so any reduction in the proposal will be a negative.

Another of my "priority tasks" when I start will be to draw up a "Schedule of Events". There are certain things we know are going to happen, well in advance. We need these in our calendar, need to understand what dependencies relate to making these things happen and how long before the event activity needs to start.

This absolutely applies to media communications. To that end I spoke with Charles Webster this evening (Lord Chas as you all know!) He has generously agreed to give up time to act as the Club's media officer and I was really pleased that we have very similar views on how to ensure things happen in good time.

In relation to the Charlton match day, it is a bit of horse gate and bolt. But we will be putting a process together to ensure this doesn't happen in the future, wherever possible.

I think we all now understand the lack of publicity re the Charlton game is not of the new managements making or fault. The board are brand new, just settling into (of have not yet started) their new jobs.

It is clear that JM and DD are building a professional team with their own areas of expertise which has to be admired. However much the sceptics disliked the concept of MYFC, it HAS been a remarkable turn around in our fortune.

The pre-season is unfortunaytely coming rather too quickly for the new board, events are overtaking the club, but it is evident that steps are being taken to obviate this sort of thing in the future.

I think this might be a little premature HG. I agree that the signs are encouraging and I was impressed that both David and John (and his family) turned out to help with the maintenance over the weekend but the acid test is whether the operational losses can be stemmed, hopefully by getting more through the gate on match days (back to the Charlton/publicity issue).

I was thinking more about success ON the field. For decades we have underachieved in all cups, whether under Garry Aldous, Andy Ford or even Liam.

Along come MYFC, and within 5 months we win the major non league trophy at Wembley. Now that may be just a co-incidence, but I also factor in the huge sigh of relief over the fact the club as a whole knew it's major debt problem was about to be resolved, meaning EVERYONE involved in onfield activity could relax, not worry about what the future may bring, and concentrate on what they do best, playing football.

Absolutely I agree the

For years now many of us have been grumbling about the club failing to promote itself properly, so its nice to get some feedback and you do seem very "pro-active".

I read your article on the MYFC website about your visit to the ground with the Chairman, taking in the ground and meeting various people. If memory serves correct 1 of the comments related to the toilets and seeing what the fans think of them and other things via a questionairre. This is a good idea but why can't MYFC just "throw" some money at these things now rather than wait until the season starts? There are some "basic" facilities that simply need improving so why wait?

The Charlton Familiy Fun Day is a missed opportuninity but given the changes going on at the Club its perfectly understandable. However, please do "hype" the Club up in the local media and dont give up if the masses don't return immediately.

Anyway keep up the good work and try not to let all us "moaners" get you down. Oh and keep posting. Thanks.

I agree, but as you say the MyFC money helped provide some breathing space and impetus, however in accepting the money the club is duty/honour bound to implement some form of PTT as part of the deal. Whilst we as supporters may not like the idea, if we consider ourself part of the club should we not be bound by the same commitment ?

I can understand your frustration but I'm not going to ask anyone just to "throw" money at anything.

I need to understand the financial situation, which means sitting down with the accountant and going through all the numbers, something I haven't had the opportunity to do yet but is another of my "priorities". (In inverted commas because there are so many of them!)

Morning, David. On a serious note, the sniper toilets really could use a handwashing arrangement - even if it's an alcohol gel dispenser as used at hospitals, zoos etc.

Have a couple of pre or half time pints, need to go for a whizz in the snipers, then feel the need for a Fleet gristleburger. It is basic hygene to wash your hands after a no 1 (although no less unhealthy than the burger), that sort of thing could be fixed at minimal cost and at short notice.

Just another thought.

Thanks for the reply. All your points seem very reasonable and sensible to me.

The wash-basin and hand-dryers will be an added bonus and seeing as the Fleet Faithful are not use to such luxuries maybe you could fit them with a

Thanks all. I'll get onto the Club office tomorrow re the fixtures board.

By the way, when I was there Saturday, Tom Brooks was in the gents behind the main stand, with a wirebrush. Spoils a good story, but he was actually scraping them down prior to painting. A pretty horrible job, he did it in great humour, like all the other people working their socks off on the day and on Sunday. But he did smell a bit afterwards smile I've christened them for him.

Phoned the Club this morning. Maurice is going to put the fixture up on the board. I'm not up there again until Monday, so if anyone driving past could let me know, would be appreciated! On Monday, I'll see about getting something up about the Fun Day too.
