This Family Fun Day...

Imagine this scenario...

I live in Gravesend, I drink in a local pub, and one of my mates invited me along to the FA Trophy final - What a great day - my local team (Gravesend & Ebbsfleet, right?) are playing at Wembley... And guess what? 'WE' - for they are now my team, actually win - YES!!

I was there, I even watched them drive up on the bus the week after and the crazy French guy (Slasher, I think) done that mad thing at Wooodville Halls..

When can I see them next?

Well?

There has been NO, ZERO, NONE, ZILCH, publicity for the Charlton game/fun weekend. So, this means the only ones who will turn up will be the people who would have turned up anyway!

Where are the posters advertising "Get your photo with the FA Trophy"... How are the 25,000 going to find their way to 'San Stonebridge'... How will all the newbies ever get to 'meet & greet' the heroes from 10th May?

Feck me, if someone like me can spot a huge gap in our promotional activity, why can't the club?

Surely, between EUFC & MyFC there is someone with the plain and basic common sense to sort this kinda stuff out??

Well?

PatMan, couldn't agree more.

Drove past the ground on Friday night (avoiding closed A2). The fixtue board over the turnstiles had not been updated.

Hopefully after this weekend it will have been changed.

p.s. Darts are advertising in the GRAVESEND messenger their game v Charlton a few days later

It just strikes me as a wasted opportunity - we have all agreed that we need to get extra bodies through the gates, and that as much benefit as possible should be made from the FA Trophy win, yet the club seem very slow to be doing anything about this.

The bit about Dartford advertising their own fixture against Charlton sums it all up...

The "Clean Up" weekend - would that be the one organised BY the fans, advertised/promoted BY the fans, with the work being done BY the fans?

How would the above have stopped the club doing some promotional work?

Apart from all the wonderful adverts in town about the "Big Day Out", mentioning powerboats, fireworks, dancing, music - would it have been impossible to get the Fleet Fun Day advertised as well? Yes, it seems so!

The club really need to take full advantage of this, promote the game against Charlton properly - advertise prices (Kids For a Quid, maybe?) offer discounts for families, let people know they can buy the new kit... etc, etc

These "most excellent give-aways" that you mention - who will get them if no-one turns up? If they are really "excellent", why not promote this fact?

PatMan I agree with your view 100%, I was merely trying to give them a small bit of the benefit of the doubt and hope they get things together ASAP now that one event is gone and the other is fast approaching. If I wasn't 5k miles away I'd be tempted to hope on my bicycle and head about town pasting promotional stuff (where permitted mind you) in my free time as the day does seem to be shaping into one that all should see (at least based upon snippets of info from MyFC)

As mentioned above by Special K, there is NO promotional material available to be distributed!

The advertising was talked about by people and the CEO, board members etc at the maintenance event over the weekend. It was also brought up on MYFC last night, I think by Slarti ?

I think you will find things happening by the weekend with advertising in the press.

This was posted on MYFC about a week back.

Our first friendly match is fast approaching - July 12th we will be trying to outsmart Charlton Athletic for the second season in a row. We had plans for a Fleet weekend to take place on the 12th July too so that members and fans alike can meet up after the game and partake in after match events.

Eurostar are going to get an agency to arrange various aspects of the event and have decided to condense the weekend in to the Saturday evening. Asbodan who is leading this on behalf of the Board was in agreement with packing everything into one day. As we'll have 3-4 hours of light after the game we should be able to have a successful day. The main reason for condensing the weekend is that Eurostar are worried about enough numbers returning the next day, and feel its better to 'go big' on Saturday with the largest possible audience.

The plan for the day includes:

EUFC v Charlton

'Don't Forget Your Red Toothbrush' at half time (penalty shoot out, winners go to Paris that night - more details to come when fully arranged)

'Extra Time party' sponsored by Eurostar straight after the match including:

- meet players, autograph signing

- pictures with FA Trophy

- shop stays open for merchandise

- Food from Eurostar destinations

- Beer tasting to choose the 'Fleet Beer' (from Tony Hadley's brewery)

- live bands

- EUFC XI v Eurostar XI (6pm kick off) for the Eurostar Cup (they think one game is better, and the EUFC XI could be a mixture of members, Fleet Ladies, coaching staff)

- and anything else we had planned or want to do

We really need to start working on how this will work, so if you are serious about helping out with the event then please contact me at gary@myfootballclub.co.uk. If you could provide me with a contact number and also what you would be willing to help out with

YF - That's all well and good, but all that does is promote the event to MyFC, ie: those who would/should already know about it anyway.

If EUFC/MyFC are SERIOUS about attracting more fans through the gates, this kind of information should have been made public as long ago as poosible. Never mind all the 'extras', the game against Charlton hasn't even been promoted in the area.

Love the bit at the end - "We really need to start working" - yes, with 11 days to go now is a good time to START...

By the weekend? So less than 7 days notice...

Thats great, that'll show them the Fleet are no longer a small-time club with small time aspirations!

Did you read the bit that Ding posted about Dartford having alreading advertised THEIR fixture against Charlton? This game is played after the Fleet one, but they were taking no chances thet people might make other plans.

Edit:

Thats great - so 3 weeks ago the plans were as good as known, yet nothing was done to let people know what was happening, and when. Oh, apart from the MyFC people that is. Thats fine then. Kinda reminds me why the "them & us" situation exists.
