Ground Improvements!

I have a very vague memory of that AB - I used to do a butchers bike round for Dales in the Market Place and that row of houses was on one of my routes.

Used to use the Coffin House corner shop most evenings when coming passed it after St Gregory's school.

It was pulled down as part of the road "improvements when the lights were put in.

The council then found out it was a listed building and should not have been touched (or should that read they knew it was listed and did not give a toss)

Thats how I remember it too Drunmmer. In all those years I have followed this club the Coffin House was at the other end.Hartsdown road end.Quite how the far end adopted the name is a mystery to me.

Went by scrapwood the other day and used the car park to turn the car around (which is all the grounds good for lol) after dropping someone off in prices ave. Saw the new terraced ends without roofs but I can tell you they do not span the width of both ends but are more on a par with Ashfords covered end terraces. Probably 2 goal widths covered maybe 3. Certainly not to the standard of the old Hartsdown road and Coffin end. Of course they do have more covered terracing than us now!

That isn't too hard at the moment ehh Paul. Am sure our time will come though. Would be good to see a large contingent up there on Saturday helping to repaint, tidy ground etc.

A bit far for me-any excuse will do.

Is the bonus for you local guys though that you get first sight of Barry's Babes in training at HDP-and maybe one or two trialists sneaking into the picture aswell.

(trying to do the sales pitch for you BGA )

Perhaps but a new terrace and cover at the Coffin end would be tens of thousands at very most. How much do you think the main stand cost? 12 grand? most of it paid by grants i would have thought.

If painting is on tomorrow and anyone from club up there, I will ask the latest news.

Cheers Tony I do know that Tam and a few others will be up there from 5. I won't be there as my lad's 21st birthday that day so a family get together (and no Frankie we wont have it up the ground painting ;))

To be fair to the club ,it is not the easiest time in the economy to be commencing with building works.

That does not excuse the last two years of procrastination;but with the uncertainty over how our young side will perform at three levels higher than they have played previously, building companies having uncertain short term futures, and obtaining funding for any type of expenditure at whatever level,it will take a bold decision to proceed with such works in the current economic climate.

It would not surprise me if previous funders have withdrawn offers-or indeed negotiations which were close to fruition have stalled whilst funders reconsider options .

That does not excuse what should have happened two years ago however.

Short term-are there any developments on sponsorship front.

Again,4 weeks ago, that was an 'imminent' announcement

That one may be easier to get some answers on tomorrow ?
