Ground Improvements!

Number6

Recommended Posts

Looks as though Ramsgate,Tonbridge and Farnboro are all going to have much improved grounds next season. Hopefully the Gate wont be too far behind. I am hoping tha money saved on the players budget will help the club rebuild Hartsdown what do others think? Am i being overly optimistic?

I wouldn't say the improvements being done at Tonbridge and Ramscum are large improvements and don't really cost that much money and they don't require as much planning detail as what ours does.

Good things come to those who wait, so i'm expecting our stadium to be extraordinary.

Alex there 2 new stands at Ranmsgate, trust me they are large improvements, will mean you when you visit can stand under a shelter away from the elements, unlike visitors to Pantsdown who need to brave the conditions at your so called coffin end.

Just some twat painting a name on the old terrace. It is not time we either called the Tivoli Road end or another better name

When I first started watching the club (1984) 'The Coffin' was on the back wall of the terrace and I actually like it. No-one else has a Coffin End and I would like it to stay.

Whoever mentioned the 'Bell End' (BGA?) there was, apparently, an online vote for the naming of a new stand and Man City a couple of years and the options were naming it after Colin Bell or someone else. Fans of other teams hijacked the vote to try to make sure that it was called the Bell End.

Surely Coffin Corner, and the house, were more at the Hartsdown Road side by the traffic lights. Not really near the "Coffin End".

Personally, I remember the stand more for the time when it was built, the little tea bar and the fact that all I can remember being able to buy there was tea and wagon wheels!

Should have added that in the course of my research I never saw the Coffin End called that in print at any point until the last few years when it started creeping into match reports etc so I'm not sure about the house thing. Possibly the first time it was written down was in a fanzine at some point.

Never heard it called the Coffin End verbally either before the graffiti went up. Seemed to me at the time that after the graffiti appeared in the late 1970's the name evolved.

Not a big deal but either way I think it's a good name. Got a feeling it was either Wimbledon or Wealdstone fans who were responsible for the graffiti - possibly Wealdstone as in the railway tunnel on Hartsdown Road opposite Tivoli Park 'Wealdstone' was painted on the wall in similar looking paint.
