cracking snarl up on the cesspit

Recommended Posts

okay back on topic...

westerly ware (brooks) today from the cesspit

Trouble is Lena, my involvement in this thread, and another, started because of your comment that 'we only ever send out nicely designed emails when we asked for money'. This is at odds with what you say above because your comment was was wrong, lacked respect (ie questioned WT motives) thus couldn't have had much thought put into it. As I pointed out, we've sent out 45 'nicely designed' emails, many of them newsletters with multiple stories/pictures. And if you received yesterday's, then the others would have got through too.

That comment angered me because 1) it was utterly wrong 2) it's trying to turn the positive into negative 3) it's a dig at the WT (when the majority of your posts center on our performance, it can only be seen in that way).

And why should I let an incorrect comment like that go? Perhaps I should, and as I suggested to Gordon yesterday, never post or look at the forum. But I do, and go and correct it. Then, within a couple of posts, Friday night is brought up. Totally unrelated and unnecessary, and that's why I called you stirring. (And I do apologise for calling you a sh*t stirrer. Far too strong.)

So look at the anatomy of that situation. It stemmed from me trying to correct a falsehood (because it's important that 200 members don't just go on to read your comment and believe it), and then it all goes pear shaped, as these situations tend to. And then the knock on effect is this thread. For whatever reason, Dave_W brings up the phrase con artists (don't know why, because no one has been talking in those terms for a while.) So again, it angers me and I want to point out that a lawyer (quotation marks or not) shouldn't be talking in those terms. Someone else on the thread is calling me a prick (not that many members seem troubled by that incidently). Not great is it?

Similarly, I think someone also told Arithon to 'F*ck off' on another thread yesterday. So there's a pattern. From plain abuse to misleading posts - it's all damaging. I'm sure Paul won't mind me including him here because we've spoken about it a lot, but we've both said what a shame it is that those who are putting in so much effort, trying their best and having successes on behalf of MyFC/members/EUFC are constantly picked at and antagonised.

All the football owners I've spoken to, and all the contemporary football books I've read (I recommend 'Floodlit Dreams' btw to get a feel for non-league club politics), all warn of internet forums, their unregulated nature and their destabilising effect. And that's what's beginning to happening here. Good people, who are doing their best for MyFC, members and EUFC feel totally shattered and got at. As I said on another thread, despite what's happened in 10 months since membership fees where collected, it's amazing how these forums leave you with a sense of failure.

I think everyone, including the WT, need to take more responsibility for what they say. This is no ordinary forum. And more so than others, it can be both massively productive or destructive.

and a members reply

How about throwing in 'twunt'?

It's a hybrid of swearies. It means little but it gets its point across.

I'm fairly sick of treading through the usually twuntish arguements. This thread could have been interesting, but it like many others has been hijacked by the twunt brigade making their twuntish case about their own twuntish view points.

MyFc member reply

The problem is, you're not just dealing with the few hundred members who are regulars on this forum, your obligations are to 30,000 members. I really think you guys should be able to raise yourselves above it all rather than jumping into arguments and get on with the real (and difficult) business of running the website and completing the difficult transition to Gadgetman at al.

I think Arithon and Crossy both make great points above. You really shouldn't be letting individual members get under your skin (it makes it too easy to wind you and Cal up).

there's hundredsloads more and well worth the 35 quid...grin

wise words from brooks who is of course referring to ian ridley from weymouth who got some serious forum stick from the weymouth fans after he tried to shaft martyn harrison... his successor....I told ridley to keep off the forums but he wouldn't listen and got crucified...brooks knows that and yet he will not keep off the cesspit....he too will rue the day his ego kept driving the keyboards...

Talking about the MyFC thread - Lena is an intelligent American woman who gets far too much stick on there. And the reason? She asks the awkward questions and she asks them politely and persistently.

I am a supporter of Lena. She won't let things just slide past, although that is often what they hope will happen.

Pretty wise advice UU from my point of view. As a matter of interest, when the wheels fell off the Martyn Harrison experiment at 'Muff, wasn't Ian Ridley at least partly rehabilitated by a number of their forum fans?
