Edgware Sub-Forum

I think you will find that the financial problems at the club have always been given as the reason. However, numpty would prefer to blame the 'old regime's' lack of desire. It fitted his perception of the world better.

Absolutely gutted this evening, completely gutted. All contrary to what I have heard, but hey, well done Uncle, Rhodes and Gavin. I will be as far away from Edgware as possible on a Saturday afternoon if this is true. I have written and deleted a million posts but I just don't know what to say. Gutted, completely gutted.

I'm afraid I don't understand the financial ins and outs of the situation regarding Edgware, but I do echo Blbo's question regarding the inevitable lowering of entry level from "definitely step 6 and mayber even step 5" to step 7 now. We really must all stop making statements that are unrealistic.

So Uncle, Rhodes and Gavin: Is it the SSML division 2 or Middlesex County League that the new Edgware will be playing in the season after next?

Tonight a NEW Edgware stands ready to enter the Non League football world dateline Aug 2009 smile

I have no time anymore for those who wish to put what has been a remarkable effort from Uncle Urchin in getting us up and runing and willing to put his money where his mouth despite the fact that it looks as though step 7 is our debut destination..Not to worry, new teams and people to meet and games to play in the first step of what I personally hope is our road to step 5 football ASAP.

The reason for step 7 and not step 5 is simple, we do not wish to take over the old club and their extensive debts just to fill a place in a higher league. We start with a clean slate both on and off the pitch.

IF those who followed the old 'Edgware' were truly fans then they would be excited by the prospect the fact they are not just leads me to belive that we run no loss by not having them on board..though should they wish to change their mind and be part or a brave new future then GREAT.

As Uncle Urchin said a represenvitve from the new comittiee will be chosen to answer questions re the club....I will just be here reading with interest and sometimes passing a comment...

I no longer care for the ins and outs of the 'old guard' the king is dead long live the king...Tonight we enter a brave new world smile

Gutted why is that? do you not wish to be part of our brave new world....or would you still rather watch Leyton?

You were not really hoping for the old Edgwrare to resume were you?

Half a million pounds in debt doesn't take much understanding even by the foggiest amongst us does it? If I had the vote that would quite possibly be the silliest quote of the year EUK, please read the posts above!!

I've had time to sleep on this news and feel a lot more positive now as I realise it really is nothing to do with the Edgware Town my dad first took me to in the early seventies.

If true, and nothing has been confirmed yet so it's still conjecture, I'm very disappointed that the real Edgware Town club has been unable to get a foothold in non league football again. We'll see.

I'm very surprised that this venture seems to be using Edgware's proper name, I thought that was 'registered' with the FA and would be available for the original club to use, then again, what do I know.

By the way Gavin, I never at any point said I would be following Leyton. I said there was a possibility I may have been moving to Leighton Buzzard and if there was no Edgware to support I would have a look at Leighton FC.

Oh well, I suppose you get used to more low points in football than highs. Maybe this is as low as it will get. Good luck chaps, you're going to need it in spade loads.

PS. Gavin, in an earlier post you called me meek and lacking in passion. Maybe, but wasn't it Jesus who said that the meek would one day rule the world? Or was that John Cleese? Can't remember.

Just to put the record straight:
Sport London e Benfica won Division 1 at our first attempt in the Middx County Football League in 2005/06 and the following season we won the Premier Division.
Several teams in the Premier Division have been trying to gain promotion for years: Brazilians, Bedfont Sports etc.
How many points did your Kentish Town team gain in Division 2 in this league? 0 points was it? Mmmmmmmmmm biglaugh

"The football league club that I support has millions of pounds of debt, but are in no financial difficulty as most of it is long term."

Forgive me for wading in here, but I imagine that club you are talking about has assets. It may own its ground, or the training ground. The players would be worth millions. So it is able to continue trading. But a club like Edgware did not even own its own ground, so no assets. I'm amazed that such a small club could run up

TheSpursfan, you may be correct. But this does not mean the club was badly run. Paul Gregory was the only person who ran the club well. He had many functions in the clubhouse which funded the playing side.

People on this forum want somebody to blame & this should not be Paul, but the people who sold the club to Barrett Homes & Harrow Council, who gave them planning permission.

What happened has happened & now everybody must move on. Some on this site want to start a new club, & fair play to them, but they are going to find it extremely difficult as they will be taking money out of their own pockets to fund it, as the people who run virtually every other club do. If they don't do this, the venture will not get off the ground.

People on this forum have said this & that about a new club, but frankly they cannot be taken seriously. I do not believe any of them know the first thing about running a football club. But its up to them to prove me wrong.

All interesting stuff, but nothing other than a foolish man with more money than sense will bring the old club back. Yesterday great strides were made to insure a fresh exciting club bearing the Edgware name would be able to compete again in non-league football. The past can't be changed, the future is in our hands. From now on the sniping & insults have to stop. Our energies must now be used establishing a well run & sustainable club !
