Englefield Green and Bisley

Recommended Posts

As a League Officer, I enjoy reading the posts on this forum but it is not always appropriate to post myself, as information generally has to go through Clubs' Secretaries.

I think I can offer a word or two of explanation on this one though. The CCL met informally with the Hellenic League a little while back, when the FA was also represented, at the end of which an informal agreement was reached (or so we thought) that a recommendation would be made to the National Leagues Committee that in return for Reading Town switching to that league, Badshot Lea, along with Bisley and Englefield Green (subject to their approval) would transfer to the CCL.

Suddenly Bisley and Englefield Green are no longer part of the equation and we don't know why. Unfortunately we currently have no direct representation upon the relevant sub-committee at the FA whereas the Hellenic Leaague do, so we have not been party to what went on nor know why the recommendation as we understood it did not get followed through.

The situation concerning South Kilburn is clearer. They intend to play next season at a different ground (in North Harrow) to the one shown in the photo and following their late application for promotion, we inspected the ground last week.

Although it was a pleasant ground, it lacked some of the basic amenities that we now look for in new clubs, such as at least one full side of hard standing and some covered accommodation. There were also doubts over the use of communal showers and other matches taking place on adjoining pitches at the same time as CCL games were in progress.

There was also some concern over the rule that clubs could not go into a groundshare in order to achieve promotion, although we were advised that S. Kilburn's Sunday side were already playing at the ground in question, so it was a moot point as to whether that should be relevant or not.

With some reluctance it must be said, we decided that their application could not be allowed, whereupon the Hellenic League immediately offered them a place, seemingly prepared to accept the ground conditions as they stand.

Unlike last season though, the FA have allowed us to accept the 3rd placed club in the Middlesex League, Mole Valley SCR FC, which brings another floodlit ground to the League. The agreement of the Middlesex League was required though and we are grateful to them for allowing their 3rd placed club to progress.

I hope that explains the situation a little.

That's what I was thinking too Alb E, I have heard that Predators have wanted to get a "senior" side for sometime since El Guffs days so that may be the case.

Perhaps a certain Chairman of a local Council could shed some light ?

Yes that is true. A statement to that effect has been made by the FA.

We are awaiting further details but it seems likely that any club wishing to go up under this proviso will need to have attained the full requirements of their present grade (i.e. Grade G in Div 1) before they can be considered although Grade G itself is now under review.

Doubtless the matter will be further clarified in due course.
