why, although one of the few highlights and funny points of the match, did dodgy davis get booked for lying on the ground by the dug outs?! Also from yesterday highlights were the return of C.J, Tony Boot and also Ryan Williams knocking the keepers cap off! As you can see not many highlights then!

the poor bloke has been out all season and although I never saw much of him last season, he did more in his little cameo performance than Gilkes has done practically all season.

Wouldn't go that far.... Gilkesy has scored some vital goals for us this season. It is good to see CJ back though, hopefully firing on all cylinders next season.

Sorry but that is crap. Gilkes has been highly improved this season and has provided many goalscoring opportunities as well as scoring a few himself. CJ came on on Saturday and di what hw always does, ran aimlessly with the ball until he lost it or ran it out of play. The bloke has some skills, yes, but a real highlight to have him back, I don't think. People on here slagging off Ryan Spencer, there is no comparison. Spencer every time, although unfortunatly I can't see a player of his talent being with us again next season now that we are staying put in Division 1.

That's crap? I quote you from Saturday "Spencer is Conference quality". Now that's real crap. Did you see his free kick at the end of the match?

Having CJ back is a bonus becuase there have been times where Gilkesy hasn't been interested and doesn't bother trying. It's good to have an alternative on that left wing with a naturally left footed player. Spencer and CJ are two different players. Spencer is more a centrally minded player, where as CJ is an out and out winger, so they shouldn't really be compared, but how you can suggest Spencer could be playing any higher than the Ryman is a joke.

Spencer is out of his depth most the time at this level we have far better players than him. I rate CJ highly and he will bring a much needed creative spark to the game, that said we do need our workman like midfielders too especially at this level so spencer, wilko, mets, R williams and dare i say it a maybe for next season Velli?? are much needed.

The possibility of having Velli back next year alongside an in form Metcalf is very appealing. Metcalf is one of the unsung players in the side and has the ability to dictate the pace of the play through intelligent use of the ball usually with passes to feet, which on our surface and against some of the defences we've seen this season is a definite requirement.

Wilkinson is also a good foil for a Velli type player as it would allow for Velli to use his creativity in the middle of the park. We never quite replaced Velli with a player comfortable on the ball, but also more than prepared to roll his sleeves up and fight. Wilko definitely has the fighting spirit to his play, but lacks the real footballing ability IMO, whereas Mets has the fight occassionally, but cannot beat a man individually, but he uses the ball intelligently enough to do this in other ways.

Willow hasn't really fired. Only shows occasional glimpses of what he's capable of. I think we got him as a Velli replacement, but he's too often frightened to try and beat his man and instead turns back and goes backwards or sideways with the ball.

CJ's direct running at full backs at this level is a positive thing to have and will cause many problems.

Midfield next year? Left - Right

Gilkes (CJ on as sub after 60 minutes when the old man's tired!) - Metcalf - Hakki - ???

Would be surprised if Bubb was still here next year. Can't say I'll miss him, too hit and miss. If he's interested he's lethal, but far too often he holds onto the ball and loses it instead of putting an easy pass into a team mate who would then be through on goal.

Maybe Willow on the right? Or Spencer?

At the risk of opening up the 'should Veli play for STFC when he's released' arguments again...

When would Veli be available to play? (I though he was serving a sentence >12 months?)

Is he still 'on the Slough books' as a player (whatever that means)?

Would he want to come back to Slough?

He doesn't, He just runs the ball out of play! He loses the ball because of the stupid trickery he tries! Im backing Radders (For the first time ever) CJ IS CRAP! - GILKES IS A LEGEND!

God help us, Bubb and CJ On each side of midfield, Tony and Sammy wont be scoring as many......

lots of optimism that we'll be keeping all of these players for next season..... lets not forget that Spencer, Metcalfe, Bubb and Williams all came during the last season and so far as I know are signed on a non-contract basis. Reasonable chance you might have thought of them moving on during the summer.

Does anybody actually know how long Veli's sentence was? I've little doubt he'll play for Slough again, seeing as we're at a level he'll be permitted to play.

That was my thought too, BFR.

I was wondering how many players might remain with Slough for next season, but I decided that there are so many unknowns about the Rebels future (eg will we have a chairman, manager, ground, players...?) that there wasn't much point asking the question at this stage!!

I'm sorry but have you seen some of Beckham's/Harte's/Figo's/Zidane's/Murphy's/Hasselbaink's/Henry's free kicks? The best free kick takers in the World have hit free kicks the same as Spencer's on Saturday so why do some people seem to think that that was the worst free kick ever taken. Also what would the reaction have been if CJ had taken the free kick? There's no way that he would be getting so much stick. To suggest that Spencer is out of his depth at this level is pure crap. If he's out of his depth then people like Bubb/Williams/Browne must have drowned quite a while ago. I still persist that Spencer is our best midfielder (WHEN ON FORM) and that like some of our other better performers over the years when I have been watching Slough has not received praise like he should; Danny Bailey being the prime example. I suppose that in the end guys this is all just personal opinion which is something very difficult to argue with so I guess the easiest thing to do is just agree to disagree on this (and probably many other matters)!.
