How do I ......

Recommended Posts

persuade my 10 year old son to carry on playing football?

Unfortunately he has the same footballing ability as his father and now they are moving from 7 to 11 aside he wants to give up.

He has always played for the 'B' team, where the results have been of no consequence, and is nervous about joining the A's and letting down the better players. The excercise does him good, he tends to comfort eat since his mum died.

Anyone got any low pressure youth sides near Dorking he join?

I would get him to at least give it a go, if he isn't enjoying playing then decide, try and get his confidence up and believe in his ability, the "better" players will have to adapt and help the rest of the team and he will find there is not much of a difference at his age, yes some will be very good but the majority will only be slightly better.

Good luck to the lad

Well I would say it's probably best if he joined a cricket team. It's great fun, new sport he has never ever done before, you don't have to be good at it to enjoy it, keeps you healthy and you never get bored.

OR

you could play tennis with him which is also good

BUT

if your feeling like a dare devil then go on a bike ride cross country.

IF

you can't be asked to do anything then play a bit of table tennis and pool/ snooker.

Or what about playing golf?????????????

thats not bad advice drummer!

DorkingDave if I had my time again I would play cricket rugby and golf. The rugby would get the aggression out (nothing personal!) to give him the chance to enjoy the impossibility of golf.and you can play cricket and golf when you're our age!

East surrey hospital has a good little learning track and golf academy round the back.

just dont buy him a drum!

Sorry to hear that Dave.

As an older, and possibly more experienced poster on here, all I can say is DON'T PUSH HIM !

I had the same problem with grand-son during the end of last season. He seemed to be under pressure from certain friends and certain family members. I had a long heart to heart chat, and he's back in the swing for next season.

15 or so appears to be the really dangeous age for this problem, when the male juices are flowing freely and young ladies seem to have more appeal than kicking a spherical piece of plastic around a pitch !
