MRP, but you have just signed Sam Jones who was playing Thanet Sunday football a few months ago. And you let the likes of Welford and Hill slip through the net only to sign them back. The problem with going down the big budget route, which is what Dover appear to be doing, is that it is not sustainable in the long-term - regardless of crowds.

My own view is that it is possible to have a degree of success with a low-budget team (see Ashford, Ramsgate and Hendon last season) but only if you have good management. The standard of this league is pretty awful, little decent football is played. A fit, well organised team - even one without much ability - can finish top half.

If you get bigger crowds like Dover and enough sponsorship it makes sense to increase your budget. The problem comes when clubs try living beyond their means. Sometimes it does make sense to speculate to accumulate. The major problem at Margate has always been the lack of progress on the ground.

I was not trying to score points, yes we have signed Sam Jones but he will be part of a experienced well balanced squad.Hill was a reserve who left and developed as a player, Welford joined Dover from a lower level than your reserves and had a torrid time in a team that was completely out of its depth, he moved on and developed into a key player at Ramsgate. The experiment at Dover of filling the team with players from the reserves and below was a massive mistake, that was my point, it may well work for you.

I have said it in another post....I seriously think this is doomed to fail.

There is no comparison with the way Ramsgate brought youngsters through to the way Margate are.

Rams were at a starting point of ROCK BOTTOM- Its nigh on impossible to get relegated from the KENT LEAGUE. The "gamble" to throw young players in at Kent League level when Weatherley was in charge couldn't really go wrong as the standard was so bad. The team that year finished about mid table in the Kent League with the likes of Schulz, playing as 17-18 yr olds.

It took 2 seasons and managers Hook and Jim Ward to bolster the squad with signings like Welford, Vahids, Pettit, Laslett, Hill for the team to be promoted twice in succession- the team growing in experience together in that period to be ready for the Ryman Premier League.

What Margate are doing is a HUGE gamble. The reserves league is not even up to the standard of the proper Kent league and go through the players signed for Margate to state who they could even challenge for a start in the Rams team?- there is a Gulf in the standard of players.

Unless 5 not only experienced but very good players for this level of football are signed before the season then it's hello Leyton all over again.

Which is disappointing as the competition between Kent teams is the most exciting for a long time.

Again the players that have been allowed to leave Margate in the close season is unbelievable!!

I hope your man has a plan!

Our team will not be just local players as Ashby has said that they will be brought in when he feels it's right. I reckon only 5/6 will have a regular place in the starting line up next season and the rest of the team will consist of players that we have kept hold of and players we will sign.

Also it is not another Leyton on the hands because we have a much better youth set up then Leyton.

Well i'm really positive about this but I am worried about the lack of experienced players in the squad at this time. Surely ba will bring in 4-5 experienced players aswell. I hope so!!!

I am absolutely convinced that the squad as assembled to date will win the league (the ryman south league in 2010/2011 after relegation this year ).

However, i am still keeping the faith(just) that BA and our backroom superstars will bring in some quality players before the season starts.

As the clock ticks though-i admit to getting increasingly nervous that he will.

I keep reminding myself though, that 4 seasons ago, in early August-after another summer of turmoil-C Kinnear had one player signed up in early August before our conf. south season ,and if we had not taken voluntary relegation-we would just have survived.

At least we can field a team at this stage, and can improve on a foundation .

Atually MM, that season we were relegated. It was the previous year from the Conference that we took demotion. I would add that we're a million miles from CK's challenge at the start of that Conference South season, although he did in the end hang on to a few fropm the previous season.

Memory fades with age for me wellsie-i thought though that we were almost safe-but then a 10 point deduction for us going into administration meant we slipped into the relegation zone and we gave up trying to secure the extra points to keep us up

Either way though-as we both post-at least we have a team in June, which is more than CK had on 1st August in that season
