Hertford Town

Recommended Posts

I have to be honest i am not a regular watcher of Hertford Town these days.

BUT i wish i knew what was going on down there, can anyone shed any light on it??

i was told last night by a reliable source that the club interviewed a 24 year kid for the managers job on Tuesday night, he is the manager of a local Sunday team.

surely this cannot be true, i mean everybody knows it would just not work, does anybody have any idea??

If the managers job has been advertised then surely any applicant should be given a hearing?

(If the Sunday side is full Step 5 or above players then he might be worth a punt...)

I'm not aware of the job being advertised in the local press, but who on earth do you apply to now that most of the committee have left the club ?

It's a very sad state of affairs & one I hope will be resolved soon. The potential there is huge & being in the county town, there is a massive catchment area. It's hard to believe that in the early 90's Hertford & Stevenage Boro were playing in the same Division. If the funding & right people get involved there is no reason why Hertford can't also rise up the pyramid.

First & foremost they need to get a suitable Manager in who knows the local scene & knows good youngsters & build from there. They might have to take a step back to go 2 forward, but ultimately the aim must be to stabilise the club.

Just a thought but how about trying to tempt Paul Tompkins away from Welwyn Garden City, it may be worth a go and come December or January he will have worked a miracle as he has done at Herns Lane this season, I've never seen such a transformation in a Club's fortunes.

Once again I find myself making comment about someone I don't even know, just because Rhodes has thrust them into the limelight! It's far too soon to claim that Mr Tompkins has turned WGC round (even by 360 degrees, as you claimed!). Wasn't their last result a 7-0 defeat?
By the way, I hear you have a big meeting tomorrow morning - it was hush hush until some tit broadcast it in the Shoutbox!

Horace - I thought that you knew Paul Tompkins, he's a very well known figure in Hertfordshire. I think he would be the perfect man to turn around your, sorry Hertford Town's, fortunes, the 7-0 defeat you mentioned to Hanwell Town last week was just a blip as indicated in the Welwyn & Hatfield Times and besides I think Hanwell are very much dark horses for the Championship:

Hanwell would be one of the favourites for the title, a team like Oxhey Jets for me are the dark horses and as I said a few months back im going for them to win it, they used to win a lot in the Herts etc, now they have been at this level for a few years let see if they can push on.

Having been a Hertford Town supporter for 20 years+ (but an expat

so only attending a few games a year), the current situation has been 'on the cards' for awhile. Whilst most people seem to be quite fond of 'the Park' , it's gradual decay (and associate issues) seem to make it a potential 'money pit'. Over the years,

'bits' of it have been gradually dismantled. It's been said so many times that Herford should be able support a team higher up in the pyramid , but the two promotions in the last 10 years have ended up with a 'crash and burn' situation. Trying to glean what is currently going on is no easy task - but hopefully the current

efforts will keep the club afloat. Of course the club needs a proper chairman - hopefully one who avoids cr*appy platitudes such as "5 year plans" ...

But the "say hello wave goodbye" situation on this matter over the

last few years indicates (to me anyway) that pessimism is realism. I can only hope I am wrong ...

It's the same person. Dual registration in two different leagues -- perfectly o.k. if with the permission of the first registered club!

That's nice, getting a club relegated & buggering off !!!
Dave Pentecost would be a very good choice though.

I made that the result of the day apart from Haringey Borough's win at Tring, Leverstock Green obviously thought they only needed to turn up to win according to their report:
