If the local press were to get involved and the local radio etc then maybe the publicity would attract more people and maybe step up our chances of staying at the park would it not and then you never know this could lead to massive sponsership deals and local business stepping in to lend a much appreciated hand to the footy club and then maybe be a start of an era of success- Probably just dreaming though.

It would be a nice idea if one of the local papers did get behind the club and provide extra publicity, etc.

Unfortunately, the reports published this year have been "unbiased". If a paper started campaigning for the club's survival, it might look like they were siding with the Supporter's Association against Martin Deaner, Alan Thorne or Steve Browne (or all three!), which would probably result in those parties not talking to the paper in question (hence fewer news stories, lower circulation, etc). At present I think they are more interested in the ongoing 'fans vs "STFC" vs Alan Thorne vs SBC' future-of-the-club arguments, from an independent (and disinterested?) viewpoint...

Chris Sliski (and others) have had dealings with the Slough E. and Slough O. recently. Anyone care to mention whether support has been requested from either paper? or what the paper's reaction is to our current plight?

As for business sponsorship, this ought to be 'easy' to obtain as STFC has a very good fan base (relative to other clubs in the division); but it is only likely to be possible once the Rebels have a guaranteed home ground and are starting to progress up the pyramid again...

Instead of thinking about being misquoted it would be better PR to get on side with the press to make sure they get it right. Fans shouldn''t make the Deaner & Consortium mistake of refusing to talk. At the moment the fans need the papers more than the rags need STFC.

What about flooding the papers with reader letters from the fans view> The papers cant misquote letters they publish, can they?

The papers use to be for the fans and the team. Surely one of the locals can be forced to stand up and be counted?? Theyve nothing to gain from standing with Deaner and Browne have they?

didn't the observer get banned from the ground for printing stories of an unflattering nature a few years back, and didn't local press go to war on the council over the 98 fiasco, when the council were relatively blameless. the papers will play whoever needs playing if it serves their own particular purpose, and going on an all out offensive to save the club will probably p%ss someone off and ultimately be forgotten a few weeks later as the public loses interest.

also on a partially related note, in the frozen tundra of birmingham, our local sports press hasn't jumped on any of the local manager's back, which is more amazing considering how godawful both the villa and coventry have done this season. the media won't ruffle any feathers unless it can get away with it, and only when it's staring at it dead on and has no choice but to report it.

wahey! the same thing said in a deliberately convulted manner, but the message is still the same. papers sell papers, they don't save football clubs

Why should we want the papers on our side? The Observer continually sh1t stir at the club and print as much negative press as they can. If they were trying to help, where was their coverage of the cheque donations to chairty? In recent home games, the club has donated £8,000 to three different charities. Must have missed that in the Observer because it certainly made the Express including a picture.

Why should Sliksi be happy about being misquoted continually and keep talking to a paper which is twisting his words to put a very bad light on the club? The club doesn't need simple coverage, it needs good, well structured PR which needs to come from the club in official statements to the press & website.
