Stadium - an update on progress to date

Recommended Posts

That is brilliant. Many have been asking about this for months, and now something's been announced, it is a real statement of ambition from the club. I'm pleased to see that after the initial phase of nationwide ground redevelopments (Burton, Rushden, Shrewsbury) which are all carbon copies of each other, we are planning to make our own mark on the stadium. That said, I hope we do take heed of the advantages the new stadiums have, like Burton and Shrewsbury's excellent hospitality facilities. This is so exciting!

not sure about that, they had a rough season with Gary "defensive" Peters in charge for most of it...

Their stadium is not "joined up" and the gaps in each corner mean atmosphere is lost, and it's colder !!!! being out in the sticks n that.

and they seem to keep singing about SALAD hase

The Scottmobile visited it on the way to a game this year. It was shiny and new enough, but lacked character. It looked so generic. I think all of these new grounds are actually all the same model, with light bricks and light grey corrugated metal, in exactly the same shape, but just with different colour seats to order.

The statement that phase five (completion for enabling development) will be in 5 - 10 years. Is that implying, that the designing, raising funds, planning & building permission etc, will take that amount of time, before starting to build any part of the Stadium? A lot of us older ones wont be here then lol

Secondly sharing with a top flight rugby club, will that mean we will have to play second fiddle to them? playing surface will be rubbish as well. I wonder where the running track is going?

Its at the bottom of the second page.

The running track I was just teasing, I did post on here a little while back, that I had heard a rumour, about the club going for a multi purpose sports stadium without a running track.

yeah I have noticed it now. I just do not understand what top level rugby club it would be as there are none in the area. There are 2nd division rugby union clubs, Blackheath and Westcoombe Park, but I'm sure they wouldn't play here. The premier league clubs I mentioned above already have much better grounds and in rugby league terms there is Harlequins(used to be London Bronco's), Kent Ravens(play at PP, I believe there are in the 4th tier anyway) and Greenwich Admirals(who I believe are in the 4th/5th tier).

Dartfords ground is a non-league stadium, but it does exist, where at the moment you have a drawing. I know for a fact it is not easy to find commercial partners to help build football grounds, look at the trouble Maidstone have been having and they do have a piece of land.
