old local players bk in!

Basically if you think you are good enough, doesn't matter who you are, if you have been here or there, up or down just phone the office and ask for a trial. Simple, at this moment in time I don't think reputations count for anything, it's your attitude that will do the talking. Saying that, the attitudes of certain names mentioned, stunk the last time round.

But people change?.

You need 11 people like David Beckham on the pitch that will wear there club shirt with pride , Beckham would play for nothing and thats the sort of person we want to see in a Margate shirt but there are not that many around to chose from unfortunatly . Money is the answer to everything nowadays and its obvious that the problem has come down the leagues and probably gone past the Ryman . In respect to some of the players there wage maybe there only sauce of income but there are also alot of players who earn good money with there 9-5 job and also want to pick up loads of money on the pitch .

It would be nice to think that we could have 11 players in blue with a job that pays ok and are greatful for there

Bumped into Bagley (yes he did survive the expierence) and suggested to him to give it another go at Margate again. He smiled and thier was a twinkle in his eyes.

Those that left have gone away and improved and the expirence has probally done them good. Remember they have been playing at a level far higher than the reserves which has only been good and positive for them.

I would welcome them all back as I believe that they are MFC through and through and would deffinatley give more than some of the mercenaries we have had for the last 3 seasons.

Just to have my say on this, i'd welcome back both players to the club. There is no doubt that Nick has the ability to be a top player at this level, if he is willing to work damn hard at it. Same has to be said for Dan Wisker, with the coaching availible to us now it really gives these lads a chance to come back and cement themselves in the side, perhaps now straight away, but in time.

I don't think the current management set-up will be tolerating any egos, especially from players that have proved f*ck all in their careers to date. Attitude has to be right.

I understand that Paul, but in Nick's case I think he may have learnt a lesson, as for Dan I always thought he should have had more chances in the team, rarely let us down when he did play.

Not directly connected, but what ever happened to the likes of Scott Holden and is it Karl Barren (tall leggy prolific striker-can't remember exact name)who both went to ramsgate, and seemigly never made the grade-i think Holden got injured .

At one stage, alot was being said about these two.

Maybe they could be 'resurrected' ?

MM Scott played a few times for Ramsgate after coming back from having his shoulders pinned. He then had problems playing due to work commitments which is still a problem I believe. he did go back to playing Sunday league but was'nt allowed to play in the local league due to a rule banning contract players playing in the same season.

Karl Barron went to Faversham last season but did'nt quite make his mark, he got injured early on and did'nt really recover.

Maybe they need to be there tonight.

As it stands, maybe margate need them ?

Decent coaching and man management and they may just resurrect their footballing careers.

I think many thought they both had real potential.

If they were fit, given our apparent shortage of players and funds, we could do alot worse than have these two up front to start with, (to paraphrase Trott - bash'em around a bit )and then bring on our speedier players if these two do not have any impact.

A decent big'un normally does ok at this level though, and at least Barron and holden had a physical presence.

Are they fit though-seems they may not be ?

Barron is lightweight and he has always been. He has a lot of pace but sometimes leaves the ball behind. Scott is a good player strong quick and has an eye for goal problem is he works Saturdays and long hrs during the week, that may have changed over the last couple of weeks but if it had he would be putting a Ramsgate shirt on as he like his time their and was always welcome back.

Interesting BTW

Maybe with a different and slightly more mature manager, they may be more interested in re-uniting with Margate than they were under Trotts alleged unique style of (non) man management

I guess the real message is though, that whilst we are starting to get a bit worried about having any players, these two did have something about them (although only saw either once each and others know them more than me ) including just a bit more experience than most of the younger guys-that maybe decent man management and coaching could enhance-and they are local if that is the criteria required next season.

or am i starting to clutch at straws ?

By the timing of your post, one assumes that Daniel is not in canterbury tonight-again-with local an apparent key criteria, and as a player with that little extra experience now-maybe also a pity for MFC

Dan like many other players won't attend tonight as they feel if they want them why do they need to trial. these players have all been on holiday and not played for atleast 5 weeks so whats the point of going upto a trial when they are unfit and unprepared.

My personal view is if they know who they can afford and who they are looking for put the basic team on contract and trial players preseason when they would have a chance.

No I totally agree they should want to wear the shirt and be commited to the cause so to speak. But players want to know they are getting the same commitment from the club.

If any of the players up at trials tonight are any good they will already be player for another club. They will not be match fit and I personally think it will be a waste of time.

Lets face it Ashby has invited about 10 down and the rest have been contacted by the club from mainly the reserves u18s and players that have moved on from Margate for one reason or another. If any of these players have all of a sudden become the next Ronaldo over night then we know these players inside out.

I may be cynical but I just can't see the point at this stage of having trials.

Isn't the point that, although Reserves, U-18's and ex-players may be known to Mark Weatherly and others associated with MFC for the past few years, they're not known to Ashby or Smith ? After all they have been given custody of the player budget and should at least view someone before committing them to a contract.

The timing of the trial may be bad, but Ashby and Smith are trying to play catch-up. They really should have been recruited before the end of last season - when they could have viewed players who were match-fit.

Yes-RT was dismissed about a month too late imo-it may have cost an extra months salary, but its costing more now by as you say Peter-BA having to play catch up.

We may even have achieved play-offs (not so sure promotion would have done the club any favours though last season)and retained a few more of the key players who may have been impressed by BA and thus keen to play under him.

Never mind- thats history now-BA accepted the cards as dealt to him; so he has to take responsibility for resolving the matter and assembling a decent team ready to go in about 6 weeks time.
