Johnno's Judo pics

Recommended Posts

It is very intense. Especially when you decide to take on 2 weight categories instead of the usual 1.

With only 3 other guys in my own weight group i felt that all the dieting and training put in over the past few weeks would be wasted on just 3 fights. So i entered the Under 73kg category for more contests. Little did i know that i would breeze through the -73kgs with no fight going past 45 secs and my -66kg category being the toughest fights yet since my comeback.

I was absolutely exhausted and my face took a battering, ending up with a black eye and marks all over my body.

I needed those hard contests though cos thats what i'll come up against at the Worlds.

Totally depends on the style of the Judo player. I prefer to fight taller Judoka as i can get underneath my opponents more. I dont come across many Judoka smaller than me but when i do, i tend to find them more difficult to beat.

The more skilful and quick Judoka always tend to win.

The Great Britain flag represents my time in the GB squad.

1996 - 2002

Hard to judge what my chances are mate. I must remember that i will be fighting people who may not have even given up Judo ever. I may come across people that have just carried on the sport and decided cos they're 30 yrs old they'd like to give it a go. There may be some that are like myself; was very good, gave up the sport and have made a comeback. You just don't know what you're gonna come up against.

Although i'm sure that at $100 for entry to the tournament you've got to fancy your chances or it would be a waste of money.

I do know that last years -66kgs 30-34 yrs World Champion is going to be there. His name is Vlamir Dias from Brazil.

He's coming a long way to fight!!
