What's happened

I went to Chelmsford this season when they beat AFC Wimbledon and agree its not the best 'appointed' ground.

The PA was asking for volunteers to come in on the Sunday to move the 'portable' stands back - presumably so's they could get on with the business of Athletics or Vole Trampling or whetever else they do at that ground?

I was Ok cos me and the lad got down the far end next to the stand and could see most of the game . Those at the turnstile end who were'nt in the temp seats could only see the other end of the ground.

There is a smoking area outside the club house but my mate got stuck in there after half time and wasn't allowed to transfer back to where we were standing once the 2nd half had started - too full according to the stewards.

The away fans were funnelled into the terrace in front of the Athletics/Sports complex - so not even sure if they had a bar available. That terrace is also flat so that bit of crowd resembled a queue at a Chinese railway station (for anyone whose seen one)

... Oh and back on the CCL subject didn't AFC Guildford, as was, share @ Cranleigh for a year or two around 04/05- I'm sure I even tried going once but it had been rained off - ended up with a revisit to Meadowbank I think.

My word you get about royals26!

Having visited Chelmo the previous season with the Dons (3-0 to us!) with 1600 odd there, I couldn't face the thought of trying to see what was going on with double the amount there. On that very afternoon, I was at Ash United watching Dorking being robbed of 3 points (damn you johnno wink )

Think you are right about Guildford being at Cranleigh for a short time, not sure if it was for a full season though.

TRS...i feel better knowing that Dorking were relegated by 14 points and not just the 3 that were so harshly stolen from you on the day in question... smirk

But didn't we also have you rocking at Meadowbank when it was 2-2 or is my memory playing tricks? So that would have got it down to 8 points with those 2 wins. Several other games I saw where they were lost with silly lapses in defence and missed chances. Could've been mid-table really. Deserve a reprieve for endeavour alone. Still hoping......

You were 2 down at your place against us but battled bravely back to 2-2, only to let us score in the final minute.

We played so badly that day i was proud to be on the bench for the full 90.

You will have noticed i said it when the season was finished and not during.!! Its not the sort of thing a manager would appreciate!! But very TRUE!!!

Here's a question for you Teflon....and anyone else.....

Situation - you're on the bench undeservedly and are right p1ssed off with the manager even if he has in his own mind good reasons for you to be benched.

Do you hope the team plays badly and gets stuffed assuring you of starting the next match?

or

Do you hope the team plays badly but narrowly sneaks a draw?

or

Do you forget your own personal feelings and hope the team wins probably assuring you that you are still on the bench next week?

I always find this a difficult situation on the odd occasion i am on the bench!!

I have to say that in my own personal selfish feelings i hope the player that has taken my spot in the team has a stinker and that if i dont get on or get a measily 10 mins we lose guaranteeing i get my place back next week!!

Now........ which managers would like to sign me??? doh

Hahahahaaa still bitter about it Johnno grin

I would go for option 3 but also hope the player who has replaced you gets injured therefore you getting you starting position back and play a blinder in the next game !!!!!

Not playing to your potential then El Guff.

You found a level that suited and stuck at it by the sounds of it.

Did you ever try playing a better level of football but find that maybe it was a step too far??

Or was it just a Sunday side??

Possibly so mate

To be honest i was very decent as a youngster, broke my ankle at 15 and out the game for 6 months. Lost interest in football as found other things, put on a few pounds......then a few more. Got back playing at 19, started getting fitter and back in to it then tore my ankle ligaments early 20's. Pounds went back on again and couldn't really be ar$ed to get back fit. Started playing Saturday football Step 7 not long after for a laugh with mates and that's when i started managing when our gaffer left.

Made a few cameo appearances for Mole Valley a few years back in the CCL when managing and managed to break my wrist & arm away to Frimley Green a few years back after coming on as sub! Not sure if SL was there that day, probably not i haven't received any flowers off him since!!

That's the one thing id change if i could, stopping after 15/16 as i could have probably made a bit of dosh out of playing.

And here endith the lesson.....

El guffer aka 'Mr Glass'

Terrible bad luck mate. Makes you think what if!!

Fortunately i've never suffered a terrible injury in football.

Broken ribs and a couple of muscle strains and the odd bad knock here and there but nothing that has kept me out of football for more than 2 weeks.

Even my more serious judo injuries like dislocated shoulder or toe nail amputation has only kept me out for 2 months max.

Unfortunately since about the start of March i've had the worst groin injury i can remember ever. Only affects me kicking a ball. Have to give it a real good warm up for it not to affect me competing at judo.
