His progress has been superb over the last couple of seasons, I remember his performance at Chelmsford in the cup which was awful and walking away thinking " can do without him playing too often", but have to say he has been a rock when he has played this year and has learnt a lot from macca.....Roll on the pre season

To be fair tho, after the Chelmsford game, you could have said the same about MOST of the team!

I don't think Smith is the most gracious of players, yet he always seems to get his head/boot to the ball when it matters. His reading of the game is improving with experience and Macca's influence and he seems much less naive than previous seasons.

England C drew 1-1 with Grenada, after dominating the game according to the report on the FA site. Grenada are World Ranked 143 so it gives an indication as to the quality at BSP level. Unfortunately, Smithy was an unused sub, but I guess thats not surprising as he flew out late - hopefully, he'll get a chance tomorrow against Barbados (world ranked 117 and who could include Marlon Harewood,(Aston Villa), Wigan's Emmerson Boyce and brothers Louie (Aldershot) and Tom Soares(Crystal Palace) and forwards Paul Ifill (Crystal Palace),and Mark McCammon (Doncaster)).

James has improved greatly in the last season and a bit.

 

I agree with the comment re Chelmsford. That was a dire day and poor old Sam Mott did a superb job after comin on for Lance.

Have read the report on the FA website, it looke like the C team gave an excellent accountof themselves.

 

I was surprised to see however, that Chris Macphee's name was not included in the squad, last I heard he had been selected for the trip?

 

Anyone know what happened?

Chris McP was part of the four nations tournament but (I think) was omitted from the W Indies tour either because of age or because he was unavailable.

A cracking 2-0 win for England C - dont know if Smithy played or not though, as theres not a full match report or teams on the FA Website as yet.

Smithy did indeed play in the game, though don't yet know the details.
