Ryman League Positions next season

Based on what little info is currently available, and as much on gut instinct than anything else i reckon the league placings for top half of table next season will be something like this:

(of course-the nearer we get to Aug 19th and the big kick off of the world famous Cookie prediction league, thoughts will change-but at moment only,i reckon its looking like this:

Sutton

Biilericay

Staines

Dover

Tonbridge

Maidstone

Hornchurch

Horsham

Canvey

Carlshalton

Margate (11th)

Ramsgate (12th)

Margate/Ramsgate is not antagonistic-just genuinely where based on the little we know at the moment, i reckon i would place the teams.

As the current winner of the prediction League, i think you a mile away with your thoughts.

Ramsgate again top 5, and Staines wth there star striker gone, may just struggle.

My thoughts on Staines are that despite losing a couple of 'stars', after their cup runs, they will have the funding to replace-and they have been consistently good for 2 seasons-this ccould be their year finally.

To me,Ramsgates squad looks a bit weaker than last year-however-i would agree that good coaching can overcome that-and i note with interest that ramsgate start training again in June-as opposed to the usual early july-so all credit to them for that-and it could well pay off.

Similarly,if Ashby and Smith can bring some organisation to our squad,it could compensate for slightly lower quality players.

It remains early days those, and like everyone, thoughts will change between now and mid August-but if season started tomorrow-thats how i would currently see it.

We will finish 12 this season i think, which i think is good for our plans, but lets see how the summer goes at the moment, because i would not say Ramsgate will finish in the top 5 this season with the signings they have made and the players they got rid off. Ramsgate conceded a lot of goals when Ollie Schulz wasn't in the team last season, but i could be wrong time will tell.

Yet more signings at Dover and Sutton that their supporters are raving about.

We'll just coast along nicely in mid table with any luck-hopefully less stressful.

Looking back to those Ashford exile days-it was quite fun when you went along not expecting to win anyway. (the days of Benevides and Charambolous-the only conf south footballer i have seen who ran away from the ball-but in fairness-he did improve in his second season)

I think the last two years when we have underachieved have not actually been that enjoyable because of that underachievement.

As long as we don't flirt with relegation,it could be quite enjoyable hanging around mid table. (for one season only )

Having caught up with the Eastwood news-seened we had a proper defender in him-now have to concede that based on what we read at the moment-(plenty of time yet)that Ramsgate look like they will finish ahead of us-and that rather than 12th-we may be circa 16th.

As i say though-plenty of time yet for Mr Ashby to wow us with a plethora of signings and more importantly-make them gel and be organised

Understand your sentiments but I think a sense of perspective required.Eastwood looked good at Harrow but was his first ever game outside sunday football (apart from Kent cups)in his mid twenties. If we had relied on him to run our defence it would have been naive and unfair.Young and Smith alongside an experienced centre half which we need to sign is good enough for me.

In many ways unfortunately-on that game alone -he looked to be streets more accomplished than Young and smith-but i trust with an extra season under their belt-and proper guidance from Ashby and P. Smith-Young and Smith continue to improve.

Thought Young was quality against Harrow as well.Best defensive display in my mind last season was when Young and Smith played together -against Carshalton i think- and kept a blank sheet.

I just felt Harrow didnt even try last game, not taking away a solid performance.

What you have to remember is that Bazza and Smudge were both in attendance against Harrow. They saw what they saw and must have made up thier minds on a few players then. They have also talked to players and made up thier minds abouth thier attitude and commitment. Interesting what Kenny Logan's father-in-law had to say about attitude in todays red top.

Fair point.

Of course ,the irony is had we gone consistently throughout the whole season-injuries notwithstanding- with Young and Smith as defensive partnership ,they may have formed an understanding and we would have conceded fewer goals.

In fairness to Trotts muddled thinking on this, most supporters-myself included-were clamouring for a more experienced defender. With benefit of hindsight-It may have been best to keep with young and smith from the outset.

Of course-we are now in exactly the same situation-and again, i think most of us `still think we need that quality central defneder-aswell as Smith and Young

Yep-i have fallen into the trap.

Surprised about your post though Joseba,as you announced a couple of months ago that you had 'edited me' so that you would not be reading my posts anymore in lieu of the rubbish i posted.

Thank you for re-instating me.
