Hardly seems fair Southend might get a fee for his services when we didn't. The wisdom of 2 year contracts.

Maybe so, but he has warmed the bench for most of the last season, will not do much more than that in the next - how wise is that... paying wages for a player you don't really use?

Personally, I think Charlie should have went to the Gills in the first place, if only because Southend had just been relegated from the Championship and probably had the "dosh" to sign decent League players. Even a quality "non-league" player would struggle in that scenario to get into the first team.

 

When Mr Scally/Ronnie Jepson were at our ground last year I jokingly said to Mr Scally "So I suppose your be signing Charlie on a free then". It was blatently obvious what they were doing there, so with Mark Stimson's awareness of the

Non-league scene I would imagine there's a very good chance of The Gills signing him this time round.

I like charlie and tried to nick him last season but he was having non of it.....fans love players like charlie and players like charlie respond...not a league player tho IMO...

I'm amazed Charlie didn't make it at Southend, he was prolific for us and had the look of a League player with a big future. He also had 1st team experience at Charlton of course and as we know played in the Premiership (OK it was only 1 match but he played all the same). Hope he finds a decent club and gets regular football again.

In my opinion, in this age of non-transfer fees, he should be released on a free..I do not think Brentford should pay money for him, if Southend don't want him
