JIMMY Jackson and Steve McKimm have been released from their contracts at Margate.

New Blues boss Barry Ashby revealed the pair were surplus to requirements as the club are now looking to invest in young players from the Thanet area.

Jackson, who joined Margate in 2006 after two spells at Gravesend & Northfleet in which he made more than 100 appearances, has now been snapped up by Folkestone Invicta.

Exciting times at Margate, but i've noticed just a couple of Ramsgate fans just trying to knock us, because deep down they know we have better youth players then them and i think they are just a tad worried that we will become thanets top side again for a very long time in a season or two.

Do i blame them? Of course i don't!

Ian where do you get the information that he was on "the verge of joining us". Ramsgate obviously approached him, with a list of players they wanted as well.

He's thought it through, as any sensible individual would. Not for himself but for the good of the lads that he's produced, and the one's he wants to help progress; in the future. Decided that the set-up Margate have got in place and the personnel on board are better for what he believes in. That is helping the young players as much as he can.

Ramsgate got lucky with a very strong youth team several years ago, which included John Vahid's lads. A few seasons ago they took Ramsgate from Kent Premier to Ryman Premier and very exciting times they were. I know because I was there with the other 30-40 fans that used to turn up on a Saturday, back then.

Yet, on the back of that, Ramsgate's youth set up hasn't really gone on. A well managed system or proper coaching staff weren't put in place to bring them on. Rams had the pick of ALL local talent as Margate didn't even have a youth or reserve set up. I even heard the other day that Ramsgate's youth teams are thinking of leaving the club.

Now Margate are back at Hartsdown, they have brought in a very very well managed and teriffic coaching system. Along with Generation Sports set up it is all about to come to fruitrition.

Jealous, of course you are, Ian.

TSO how wrong you can be under 13s rams kent team made final of the KCFA cup this season under 14s Kent team runners up in the league with only 2 losses all season they also won the kent cup last season. Coaching staff are all level 1, 2 or 3. By the end of the summer Ramsgate will have 3 level 2 coaches 2 level 3 coaches and 1 pro licence holder coaching their under 13s through to the reserve sides.

The Ramsgate Youth teams you refer to run seprately to the main club and have done for several years as have Margate Active. Ramsgate have had problems last year with getting commited Managers unfortunatly due to personal reason the u15s coach had to leave last season.

For the forthcoming season Ramsgate have probably the best set of managers and coaches I've seen for a long time.

As for Margate this setup has been asked for for the last 18years when I was there coaching and managing a youth side. Its taken all that time to get it going lets hope for the future of the local lads they don't f-ck it up.

Finally when the new stadium gets built and the club gets sold on with Piper getting his money back he so desires lets hope the new owners have the same view.

As for Generation sports they had a meeting last week to join up with Ramsgate aswell along with Weatherley their in it for money so as soon as something comes along better they will use business sense rather than sentiment to decide where their company should be.

Thanks for the insight of what's happening there now bigtw and for clearing up that matter of Ramsgate Youth teams thinking of leaving the club. Must admit didn't realise it was a different set-up but guess info is correct then.

Plus it's good to see the club have got proper coaches in. This was not the case a few years ago, just Dads.

Well done Ramsgate for getting their act together on this point.

Still believe that Margate have put in place a better set-up.

I don't know the ins and outs of the clubs as far as youth teams go. But your closing comment is complete rubbish TSO when you've admitted you do not know what is going on at Ramsgate. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't but seeing as you do not know, you are not in the best position to pass judgement.

Butler can't believe I'm having to defend comments of my beliefs about who's got a better system in place on a Margate forum about Ramsgate.

My opinion is that Margate have got the best coaches and the best prospects.

Reasons for this:-

1, Ramsgate wouldn't be trying to get there hands on them if they weren't better than they've already got.

2, Margate u18s 5th Ramsgate u18s Last

Margate u16s 3rd Ramsgate don't appear to have a MUSH team

Margate u15s 5th Ramsgate don't appear to have a MUSH team

Margate u14s 7th Ramsgate u14s 2nd.

3, Your reserves were relegated.

Teams at Ramsgate in the last several years have always seemed to do really well at u13 and u14 level. Yet as they progress up the age ladder they always seem to drop position in their relevant age group the following season. Even to the point of being relegated at the reserve level.

I'm afraid the proof is in the pudding to me. That's how I'm able to give my opinion and the fact I used to watch Ramsgate for many years. That was until an unsaviory element of so called supporters started to turn up to games. Even to the extent that I started to fear for both me and my grandchildren's safety. So after years of enjoying Saturday afternoons at Southwood I went across to Margate and must say am very pleased that football and football people have both returned to Hartsdown. Folk that just want to watch football for their love of the game. The same as the 30-40 Ramsgate used to have. Yet over here it's more like 300 of those kindly souls.

Now if all this is about to change at Ramsgate, this season, I for one will be first to applaud the club yet for now I'm entitled to my opinion. Thankyou.

TSO Youth team football is not all about results, as I am sure you well know. The flip side to our reserves getting relegated is that we had eight local players in the first eleven, whereas your best local players have been in the ressies.

It seems at times Margate were going for results in the reserve league as opposed to the Isthmian Premier, prime example would be AFC Hornchurch away wouldn't it. Sending a fifteen year old into the squad so Matt Bowles could wrap up three points for the reserves, who knows, could have cost you a play-off spot.

Ramsgate head coach, Steve Butler: If this was a game of "Top Trumps", the only attribute that you could possibly top him on would be his lack of hair.

Who do you have that has ever done anything in coaching? Look at Southall's record, appalling. Lasted three months at Dover, four at Hastings both as a manager and even came to Ramsgate for two months last season and while he was at Southwood we won one of our ten games. Weatherly has done well as a coach, at a local level it must be said however, but to say you have brilliant coaches at the club is wrong IMO. Ashby (novice) Smith (Novice) Southall (Inept), just lucky Weaths is going down with the ship at the time being instead of jumping.

Yeah but everyone knows that Margate have 2 or 3 very good players about to emerge. McAree and Lewis. Plus another 3 or 4 ready to follow suit in the next year or two. McClean, Taylor and Wheatley.

Rob you are talking rubbish. Nev played for Everton and Wales, Wevs is the best local coach around and both Ashby and Smith have league experience. I don't see anyone with a profile like that at Ramsgate. Ward was a Sunday football manager untill he joined Ramsgate and Maidstone. Credit to ward for his success over the last few years but I think Ramsgate have peaked.

Just to put my pennies worth in. I can speak with some experience, albeit a couple of seasons ago and I recognise that things change and we all have stories.

Starting a few years back, my son played for a local youth set-up, the team were quite good (you will catch on further down the post) but wanted to play at a higher level, the manager also wanted to play MUSH football and approached Ramsgate, I went to the meeting but Ramsgate seemed uninterested and said that although they would take the team they would be on their own. It was felt that because the teams manager was good at getting sponsorship it was he that Ramsgate really wanted. They did not go. My son later left to join Thanet Colts who`s manager also approached Ramsgate and were taken on as u14 MUSH, again Ramsgate were not really bothered with the side and did little to help. The side had loads of problems but a few, the best few, hung on and gave their all. Then, when at the close of their u16s season, trials for u18s were called for those ex u16s were told to train to one side and it was clear that they were not even looked at and not wanted. Some of the players involved were, Matt Bowles, Nick Argirides and Jamie McClean who had been the teams top goal scorer of the previous two seasons. As we know these players did not get sellected and all went to Margate and were welcomed with open arms. In the meantime some from Ramsgate labelled them Ramsgate Rejects. Since then I have been asked by several Rams players about joining Margate, of course I do know that this is not a one way thing. It is pot luck as to who ends up as trainer/manager and here Margate have been lucky. The 2006/07 season was great especially for my son who went from an ok player to someone with a bit of promise as did Matt Bowles and a few others. Although I have been disappointed with some of MFCs attitudes I have to say that over all they seem to be better and more importantly consistent, especially at u18/reserve level. I do not think MFC could do much better than Tom for training and Phil for a cool head. If MFC are looking to build from the youth then things are in the right hands.

is'nt it fantastic that supporters of both margate and Ramsgate can have this debate.

The fact that debate is taking place is a` credit to how far both clubs have come.

Yes-Ramsgate were there first-well done;and now we have Margate with a good and improving reserve and youth set up.

Could we say that 3 years ago.

How many forums at even conference level-and certainly at Ryman level, have good debates about the reserves and youth;with quite a few participating in the debate.

Its all stimulating interest ,and even the debate alone, will probably 'strengthen 'the quality of both clubs reserves and youth by a very small percentage;so its all healthy stuff imo,and bodes well for the future of both clubs.

Certainly, it appears that in Thanet, there is a better quality of youth football set up now than say in Dover/Folkestone,Medway Towns,West Kent/Tonbridge are.

Would anyone more in the know than me on that agree ?

AS the reputation grows-and having the likes of Southall and a director of football must help-with their reputations-and as it seems in particular this summer a few lads are going for trials at league clubs; (is that correct ?)it must attract more and more to the set up-maybe the margate set up will start to attract those young guys currently living in canterbury and Dover towards margate;so the quality ever improves.

Of course, you also have to see this as a business and an investment.from the clubs aspect; the success comes when one of the young players is under contract;and the club enjoy a reasonable transfer fee to pay back some of the financial investment in the youth/reserve set up.

Who will be the first player to command this ?
