Peterborough and Big John Akinde

In the NLP paper, it says that Peterborough have been knocked back 3 times in their attempts to make a bid for John.

In other news, Chris McPhee says he'll talk to Liam Daish about the new contract when he gets back from England duties and Aldershot's Niki Bull rates John Akinde and Stacy Long as two of his top five players to take the BSP by storm next year. He also says we are one of the teams he thinks can win the BSP next year.

We clearly need to keep hold of promising young home-grown players such as John. Furthermore a move to Peterborough would not necessarily help him develop as a player. He would probably start as 6th choice striker, play in the reserves and no longer be in the "shop window". Far better to be playing regular first team football and developing skills in the Conference. Of course he is on a contract so can't go anywhere just yet, but I hope that he sees it this way too. I am also sceptical about the size of any tribunal transfer fee the club would receive for an unproven teenager.

Pleeeease can we hold on to John for at least this season? I think the more quality players we hold on to, the more quality players we stand a chance of signing. Any striker playing off of John's hold-up play and flick-ons, if they have finishing, composure and pace, could easily net 20+ in a season. Charlie and Big John could have been the best attack in the Conference- I really don't want to see us becoming an advertising company for promising players to play a season and then go!

Hasn't John already signed through next season? I'm sure that's the case.

I think John's signed until the end of the 08-09 season. This means we have relatively little time to cash in on him or extend his contract before he walks away on a free.

Yeah but it doesn't stop another club coming in for him though. Just they would have to cough up some serious money(Serious money in term to Ebbsfleet)if they want him before the end of next season.

Or clubs bide their time until he's months away from his contract expiring, then offer a pittance in the knowledge that it's effectively that fee, or nothing, as far as we're concerned. Take Clayton Donaldson at York. Was it Hibs who offered

But then again getting a small fee would be better than getting no fee at all. But I would rather not to lose him at all.
