hmmm...well the R&D chairman is well known to us and a very decent chap he is as well.....garry hill of course is also known to us and despite our fall out I rate him highly as a manager and IF...IF... he gets a decent enough budget....he will compete next season....

hillsy tried to sign DC when he was with us and I put the block on it over the telephone from nottingham which didn't go down to well but the lad is an expensive player and I am not sure he is worth the money he commands..having said that I can see hillsy getting a good season out of them two and subsequently the team doing well next term...

Seeing as you seem to be a "man in the know" Unc's what sort of wages roughly does a Top Quality Conference striker command a season? 75K a year?

Could the Fleet afford to pay such money even with the FA Trophy success for a single player. As a signed up MYFC'er I'm sure I'm entitled to know what everyone of our players earn anyway evil

ha ha...nice one jim.....smile

being serious tho' its a long time since I was involved in negotiations at that level as we are just a little old skint club now but the two aforementioned strikers will probably command a 100k plus per annum 'tween 'em...

john main at a 20k transfer fee and a grand a week to wombles from tonbridge was a good deal by TB....long term they will profit enormously...hillsy's gone short term and he may be right...make no mistake DC is a very good player at level one...

as to the value for money.....a grand a week at your level for a 20 goal a season striker is about right in my book...10k per week should get you near to play offs...I reckon hillsy is going with 12/14k...

Ahh, but he isn't the most loyal of striker's. IMO, gets paid a lot and does a decent job, one bad injury though, and he could have his reputation get him a higher wage at a better club.

no disrespect meant but hillsy hasn't signed him for his loyalty...he's got him for his ability to keep the ball in the oppo third and his goals....

loyalty doesn't come into it.....

That was Darren Caskey - and judging by the size of his gut he was paid in burgers and clarified butter.

Unc was deliberately fattening him up for some kind of weirdo Essex Wicker Man-style sacrifice. But Darren was too clever. He ate so much that Hx were cleaned out and he ran away while noone was looking.

I never even met him let alone sanctioned the signing although to be fair he wasn't on a contract...hillsy signed him without telling us...he got 800 quid a week net and lived in one of my houses in upminster near the ground which we kept for players etc....good player in his time tho' and yes the goal he scored against you lot in the FA Cup game was pure class..(I know.. I know...you'll never forgive us grin) but I was there that day and not withstanding the result it was an excellent game of footie..

I believe that it suited him to sign for us as he needed to be in upminster for wife/girlfriends family reasons...cannot really recall the full facts but that was about it...he wasn't owed any money when I paid off all the contratced players but he fcked off with my stuart crystal and went to america coaching....mad

anyone know where he is now..?

returning back to DC...he was at chester when hillsy wanted him for us and mark wright wanted 75k for him and the player wanted 2k per week plus extras if I recall....anyway I kiboshed it and he went to boston....a grand a week in todays marketplace isn't outrageous for a proven scorer at your level....diamonds will want watching next term...

Halesowen.

He went to Peterborough (4 games), Bath City, Havant, Virginia Beach Mariners, Rushden and then Kettering after he left you.

Dunno where the crystal is.
