Tonight's Parade

Recommended Posts

I thought it went really well. Considering the time and the day and the weather, I thought it'd go down like a lead balloon, but there were a fair few to see the lads off from Stonebridge Road, people all along the way, as well as about three-hundred? there at Woodville Halls.

Sacha's speech was legendary- forget' We'll fight them on the beaches' or whatever, his wise words should go down in history. I thought it was really well-ran, and it's good to see the Council recognising the achievement, even if the Mayor doesn't know our manager's name!

Yeah, was pleased with the turnout. Early on New Road looked a bit forlorn but it soon filled up and Woodville Halls was packed enough.

Pleasantly surprised given the time, the weather and the town's notorious apathy!

And now I can finally wash my stinking Wembley shirt!

Just one slight hiccough in my book.

The announcement from the balcony was "The players will leave again in about 30 minutes". I was actually nearer 50 minutes, but that wouldnt have worried me, if there hadnt been the antics in between with the team bus.

What the hell was all that about? Bus originally waiting beside Civic Centre. After about 20-25 minutes, driver gets in and switches on engine - those of us remaining to see them off again (and there were still about 100 there)expectplayers to appear, but no - instead the bus drives off & ends up parked at the back of the Civic Centre where it sits for another 10-15 mnutes. It then drives off again and this time disappears towards the town. No-one seems to know what on earth is happening.

After several minutes, the bus reappears and drives round the Civic Centre, and parks back up where it originally was. This time, 5 minutes later, the players and Daish appear and get on board to good cheers and singing. Liam , despite holding the Trophy, stopped to sign numerous kids shirts, and it was great to get a close up of the Trophy.

The situation could easily have gone "pear shaped" as many of us were feeling rather peeved at having been told one thing, when it appeared something else was going on. If they didnt want us hanging round, why announce the players would be back out 30 minutes later? And if they werent worried about people hanging round, why the carry on with the bus?

Apart from this, a great time was had at the Civic Centre even if Sacha's leap off the balcony with the Trophy left a few hearts beating rather fast for fear he'd go through the roof!!
