,Pre-Season in Scotland?

Recommended Posts

"There would also be no training or very little, just riding around in a bus"

The players could have travelled up on the Friday and the Tournament was the Saturday and Sunday, travel back could then have occured on Sunday night or Monday. Costs for transport and accomodation could easily have been around

Given the apparent effort put in to arrange some quality pre-season games it isn't for lack of trying except that any prime opponents need to be booked up a season in advance and even then we can still be let down (see CAFC last season for example). In the meantime, apologies to Scottich MyFC that the Club have been unable to quite pull off the tri-tournament with Celtic and Real Madrid that you appearantly believe is your birthright for your

What you forget Manic , is that very few of the players live near Gravesend (or Northfleet) and travel up from the South Coast or down from Essex.

A tour would have meant a very early start on the Friday and a late return on the Monday (rendering Tuesday as a useless day for any training, treatment etc...)

Of course , the team could have returned Sunday evening , but that would likely have resulted in people maoning about the team not caring about the northern members.

A pre season should not be as a reward to northern members but as a fitness/trailist/tactical/profile lifting series of matches.

I fail to see how sending a team of players (some of whom will be trialists and some who will be new to the club) all the way up from kent to Scotland would benefit anyone other then Northern members seeing the team.

Now if there was a guarantee of another 500- 1000 people signing up to MYFC just because we played a mini tournament in Scotland , then I would be in favour as the club would benefit.

If it bothers you that much that the team are not playing the tournament then do one of three things.

a) Just get on with your Scottish model of MYFC

B) Arrange a vote to move the team to somewhere up north.

c) Just accept it was never going to happen and get on with the other projects you are working on.

So now we have a 'West Country Tour' scheduled?
While I agree with a lot of the points above, a game or two in Annan would have been accessible to a lot of us.
I live in Birmingham, I can get to Annan quicker than Stonebridge Road. It would have been nice to have had a pre-season game that lots of us could have got to easily. Thousands of us made the trip to Wembley, and we'll try to get to Stonebridge Road (in addition to a lot of away games). It would have been nice if the team had just got 'north of Watford'. I know it's about non-league realities, but some days you can see why some of us feel it's 'a local team, for local folk'.

Virgin Train to London - forget it until they finish the works on the West Coast Line.
Last Saturday morning, it took two hours from my house to Acton, and that was before traffic built up. I'd still have to get round the M25 and get over the QE bridge. 3.5 hours door to door. Any traffic build up on the M25 and the journey's a nightmare.

From my house, I'm right on the M6 toll. 80mph all the way to Carlisle, slow down through the roadworks at the border, left past the shopping village at Gretna, wave at the Welcome to Scotland sign, pass a couple of the McBurney Brothers trucks before the dual carriageway ends and hang a left as you get close to where the big chimneys used to be. 3 weekends ago I did it in 3 hours on the dot.

And the air's much better up there. (nice to visit, wouldn't want to live there though).

Nope no points currently. I did get done for racing about 10 years ago on the M6 just North of Lancaster. They were nice and wrote it up as 98mph. I've grown up since then.

My biggest problem with cars is that someone keeps nicking mine. I've lost 3 in the last 6 years. Two in one night. Still love Birmingham though.
