,Pre-Season in Scotland?

Recommended Posts

Apparently Manicscot was asked by Will to arrange things...

This is Wills take on it.

'I agree with this. It's a shame it's not happening. I thought it would have been great for our Northern and Scottish members. That's why I contacted Kenny late April about this. But sadly it hasn't come off.

I did explain to Kenny that I'd let him know Wednesday morning at the latest (we were waiting to hear back from Eurostar and Liam who was back at the club on Monday and Tuesday). When it became apparent it didn't fit in with club plans, I thought the right thing to do was to get Roly (Club secrectary) to call Kenny.

Kenny's disappointment is one of a number:

I put a lot of work in trying to get Fulham to come to Stonebridge Road with Bullard and Hodgson (ex Fleet boys). Letters, emails and phonecalls were shared. At one point it was looking good, but then we were let down.

Sacha put time into getting a game at Rennes and spoke to their manager. Next pre-season is a possibility apparently.

Alex at Eurostar has been trying with Cannes, Nice and Avignon. No luck as yet, but lots of effort also.

Alan Kimble has been, and continues to use his contacts to try and set up a prestigious game.

We also contacted Redknapp, Storrie and the club secretary at Portsmouth after their FA Cup win suggesting a Trophy winners v Cup winners would be a unique friendly. Again, effort put in, but it didn't happen.

The trouble is, it's all a bit black and white. Had the Scotland trip gone ahead, it would have been great to have had a member-sourced tournament. A real expression of what we're trying to do. Does the fact it hasn't happened mean that blame has to be attributed?

But ultimately, Roly has to organise pre-season games that fit in with Liam's plans. Whether or not this is right is perhaps another debate. My instinct is that telling the coaching staff and players to play a friendly they aren't comfortable might not aid their preparations.

I hope this doesn't dissuade Kenny and other members trying to arrange things on behalf of the club in future.'

A game between the FA Trophy Winners and the FA Cup winners would have been nice.

MyFC is pretty pathetic tonight.

To quote one of the members directly...

"I will be voting with my feet on this one. If they can't be arsed I can't be arsed, you try to get behind something for them basically to turn round, stick two fingers up at you and tell you to [****!!****] off. Is this what it's all about? We've got your cash, we're alright now, we don't need you interfering in this club, us Woodville hall's posse is running."

Either you let me play with my Football or I'm taking it home.

The fact that he posted it at a ridiculous time of the day or his small narrow mindedness.

Token involvement asked of MyFC (the owners) just does not cut it. Yes I know some 'local' MyFC members wish the club ran itself, and it remain a tiny club, but the majority wish for better and greater things for the club.

I hope the new CEO has a set and stops this nonsense from EUFC displayed so far.

How do you get to the conclusion that we want to remain "a small club"? How would spending thousends of pounds getting the squad up to Scotland for the weekend have improved the club? By the way that's thousends of pounds that the club can't afford as we're still losing

I'm as weary of the likes of Dobrt's "the fans are small time and they want the club to remain in a backwater" attitude as he probably is of what he perceives as our small-time attitude.

Most Fleet fans are supportive of, or at the very least accept, the way MyFC is going. Many other club's fans would have chased it out the door and done more than grumble about PTT (indeed many other Conference fans can't believe we haven't).

But just cos we don't hail every scheme as an instant success or try to point out the problems inherent in some of the ideas, we are met by the likes of Dobrt and other

been having a read up on the cesspit regarding this issue and have a few observations

don't agree with MS usually as he mainly posts bollox but have to say that he has been let down here having gone to an awful lot of trouble and quite clearly with the approval of WB...

WB posts on the subject are woolly at best deliberately evasive at worst...

why should WB take it upon himself to organise (sic) pre season friendlies without consulting Liam (assuming that liam didn't know about it)

why did a sole member of MyFc who is not a TBM or FTM or a member of the WT/FT get approval to go off on this scottish adventure...I thought the whole idea of this little fandango was to seek the wisdom of the crowd on all of these matters..

pre season friendlies are used for several reasons....trials...gate money from large attendences if a big team is visiting..getting players fit...planning for the hard season ahead with the right squad...none of these points can or should include fan involvement...all pre seasons should be arranged by a club sec/fixtures sec WITH approval from the manager..its traditional and it works that way.....

it is not unusual for pre season games to be changed/cancelled at short notice...it happens all the time...

if liam was not informed of this and he kiboshed it upon his return to the club (holiday presumably) then its bang out of order because someone should have telephoned him back in May..if he did know and has changed it at the last minute then tough...thats footie and it happens every season to most teams in pre season..liam has a responsibility to do whats right ON the pitch...not off it...

MS is the one who unfortunately has egg on his face and presumably liam didn't speak to him about this....now MS represents himself as being knowledgeable in footie circles...if that is so he should have known better and spoken to liam regardless..I wouldn't dream of organising a pre season without first speaking to colin...even if a director/official told me it was okay..

mind you this could be positive as it proves beyond doubt that when well meaning but amateur busybodies get involved in running (sic) football clubs things get fcked up...leave it to the pro's in future MyFc and just enjoy your ownership of the club..

so there..grin

There is a lot of people on Myfc (one or two here to probably) That forget it is a business and not a game. As someone pointed out earlier the cost alone makes it unworkable, unless the crowds turn out in there thousands. Which I doubt. How many in Scotland unless you belong to MYFC, Have heard of Ebbsfleet?? very few if any I reckon , so turn out in there thousands nah, I don't think so. Uneconomical and unwise. There would also be no training or very little, just riding around in a bus, Just what you need before the start of a new season, so another reason why it is unworkable. This project has not been thought through at all.
