Bad News - McPhee eyes Football League

Recommended Posts

From the Independent

Quote:
But it is not all glee for Ebbsfleet as McPhee could be on the move this summer. "I'm speaking to the manager [Liam Daish] in the coming weeks," he said. "My contract expires today [saturday] and I'll be discussing the situation.

"I'd like to get back in the Football League and prove a few points. I can always say, wherever I am, that I scored at Wembley."

Lets hope Liam can persuade him to stay another season. Hopefully he will fulfill his desire with us!!

Speculation like this is always going to happen to a successful team. Any of a number of players could (and should) be playing in the football league - Cronin, Smith, Long, McPhee, Bostwick just for starters. When they get older and stronger Moore, Ricketts and Akinde will also grab the attention of league scouts.

The thing is to get them on contracts, so they cost money if othyer clubs want them. Mercenary, but a fact of life in non-league football.

This will be the "De Bolla" problem again if we arent careful, though. Players playing brinkmanship - hanging on as long as possible before committing to us again, in the hope that something "better" comes up. Why would they sign a contract with us, if they have even the slighest chance of going elsewhere at a higher level?

And The Independent was clearly looking for a headline to pin the story on. The two don't necessarily match up.

Although it would be disappointing to see any of the team leave, if an offer was made & they were able to play at a higher level, then who could blame them for wanting to take it ?

We're all proud of Jimmy Bullard aren't we ?

Just make sure we get some cash out of it should a situation arise !!

Big John has the making of a player who will be going on to far greater things......and good luck to him.

If any of our players go on to make it in the "big time" then it reflects well on the club & Liam & his management team in particular.

Cheers,

Some Clubs have already announced their retained list for next season. Obviously ours was going to be delayed until after the FAT Final. I don't know when it is earmarked to be announced. Does anyone have any information? What is rather concerning is how few players are already under contract for next season - only perhaps 5 or so.I know that this is 4 or 5 more than usual at this time of the year, but there has been a lot of publicity over the past few months about the issue and the process of Liam wanting to retain many of this successful side. Also has Liam actually finally signed his own contract with the Club?

Sadly successful teams are just as likely to be broken up as retained. Only time will tell which ours will be.

Can't think that Liam will want to release too many at this stage - possibly Nade, Bull and Coleman spring to mind as early candidates, but In about a month, after the players have had a well deserved holiday, and start renewing contracts and training, then is when in ins and outs will become clearer.
