I really do hope, along with others, that our regular support increases in size next season. This will happen only if locals, who have not previously given the Fleet a chance, change their ways and break the habit of a lifetime. Yes, I agree that this time we have ended up the victorious team so it could make a difference, but there is one piece of evidence from yesterday's final which worries me that once again they will only ever turn up for the big games. By this I refer to the numerous Mexican waves which originated from behind the goal at our end in the second half. What genuinely interested supporters would start this at crucial points of the game such as when we were under pressure and defending a corner? Above all it was totally disrespectful to all of the players. The game was never boring so why resort to such crass behaviour? I am afraid that the norm will still be once a daytripper always a daytripper for many there for the Wembley experience. All credit to the Torquay supporters for refusing to join in.

Your right about this, but if riverviews 11year old nephew can change from arsenal to the fleet, then there must be more like him, 10% of yesterdays crowd will do, im hopeful.

there is always hope, hopefully we have learnt the lessons of not capitalising on the teams successes and our day in the sunshine.

The lack of a co ordinated long term approach to increase crowds on the back of our conference promotion, laid the way to where we are now with the MYFC lot stepping in to takeover.
Hopefully in amongst their 30000 there are some long term thinkers who are planning a strategy to capitalise on our current good publicity and exposure.
There is hope

it may even warm us up instead of freezing our bits of - the true loyal sports are at the fleet come rain, wind, snow, bad food or sun

That's true KMJ. I didn't join in the mexican waves and a bloke behind me commented on it. He also commented on me having a cheeky cigarette with about 15 minutes left.

I asked him if he was at the Carshalton match and told him to pi55 off.

It was a stressful second half!

Not if I was a Torquay player though. If I saw my fans doing a Mexican wave while I was 1-0 down I'd be well pi$$ed off!

Not surprised they didn't join in, I wouldn't have if we were losing!

Now, now Les... wink

The club history page disappeared cos there was no point in advertising it while I didn't have the time to complete it. And as new owners, it was kinda difficult to deny MyFC a web link!

We will have to agree to differ. I am not being a kill-joy. If we had been 3-0 up there might have been a case for it. Personally the timing of these numerous waves sent a message out to the team that the game was boring and could have affected the players' concentration. It wouldn't have been funny or clever had Torquay equalised during a wave! The booing simply added to it being unthoughtful and inappropriate.

I thought that it was poor form that so many Torquay fans had left the stadium before their team had received their medals. Presumably this was Devon's own daytrippers rather than the Gulls usual fans?

What's worse, according to the Torquay forum, there were plenty of red shirts making a swift exit for the Tube before we'd got the trophy.

Even if you're a daytripper, I fail to see the point of leaving before seeing 'your' team lift the trophy unless you have a pressing reason to leave.
