Any views on the MoM?

 

I thought Akinde worked his socks off, set up the goal and was the first line of defence chasing the ball across the Torquay backs.

 

Only a minor point on a great day.

Totally agree. He had a brilliant game and should have been MOTM. A minor point as you say - but they got it wrong!

Bostwick for me - immense - didn't misplace a pass and won every loose ball that came his way.

 

How he wasn't young player of the year I don't know - he is only 19!

Tbh, any of the players could have been. Even McDonald came on at the end with a look that said "They will only score over my dead body".

The whole team were magnificent, but if I really had to choose one then it would be Chris Mcphee, he didnt let his head drop after the penalty miss and was solid throughout.

I think McPhee certainly deserved it - it must have been so hard after the penalty save, but to come back and score like that - brilliant.

 

They were all great, as others have said. We have shown we don't bottle it when it matters.

Akinde came of age but I would not like to single any one out.

I thought McCarthy had a great game...withstood the pressure in the first quarter of the game and was strong all round.

Akinde was it for me as well. He set up most of our scoring opportunities, usually with two or three Torquay defenders draped all over him. I'm not a fan of the overused long-ball strategy, but it's hard to argue with him as the target up front.

Spoke to someone in the office today, who went to the game with a Torquay supporting friend. He commented that Akinde looked good and a real prospect.

Some of his defensive interventions were superb too - just shading Akinde for the accolade for me.

On the subject, why was McPhee rather bizarrely presented with the match ball in a perspex box?

A valid point, given that 'Tall John', albeit making a greater impact, only properly broke into the first team in December.
